The Lab Technician position is based on-site at DeNova’s R&D headquarters in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Perform basic laboratory procedures, including preparation of media and stock solutions, preparation of agar plates, waste disposal, and autoclave operation
- Provide general lab support, including waste disposal, glassware washing, and workstation organization
- Monitor lab consumables stock, track inventory, and support lab procurement activities
- Establish and co-ordinate service and maintenance for laboratory equipment
- Support the development and drafting of standard operating procedures and programs
- Identify and recommend operational improvements for efficiency and quality
- Proactively maintain organization of labs
- Receive and unpack deliveries
- Coordinate outgoing lab shipments
**KEY QUALIFICATIONS**
- Post-secondary education with a Technical Diploma or Science Degree
- Two or more years' demonstrated experience working directly in a laboratory environment, with experience working in a life science or microbiology environment preferred
- Basic computer skills with competency in using Microsoft Office products (ie. Word, Excel)
- Effective communication skills and fluency in English, both verbal and written
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and effectively prioritize within a fast-paced work environment
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Ability to lift 25 pounds on a consistent basis
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Interest in playing a key support role within a team and thriving in collaborative relationships
- Excellent time management skills and ability to effectively prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Solution-oriented with strong problem solving skills
- Team player who enjoys sharing ideas, thinking creatively, and working collaboratively with others
- Strong organizational skills and interest in developing or implementing organizational systems
