Directly responsible to the Estimating Manager, the Junior estimator will support the team by preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for non-extrusion value-added services and projects. This role requires attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications. The position is responsible for all and other administrative duties as required.
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
**Education / Experience**
- Diploma or degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 1 year experience in a similar role and CNC experience
- Minimum 1 year experience in a detail-oriented, administrative and fast paced role.
- Background in Engineer/Engineer Technologist and Costing/Estimating
**Technical Skills / Competence**
- Basic understanding of CNC machining processes and fabrication methods.
- Ability to read 2D and 3D drawings, blueprints (with GD&T)
- Strong math and analytical skills.
- A solid understanding of the following equipment/technology; Computers, various PC software, ERP software programs (EPICS, Navision, Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with Epics considered an asset
- Experience with aluminum extrusion would be considered an asset
- Effective command of English, written and oral
- Highly self-motivated and charismatic
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong time management and prioritization skills
- Attention to detail with a passion for excellence
- The ability to do high-volume data auditing without experiencing fatigue or allowing mistakes
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
The duties and responsibilities of this role are detailed below, but not limited to the following:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for CNC fabrication projects based on customer drawings, specifications, and material requirements.
- Analyze blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine project scope and requirements.
- Work with the production team to gather information on machine time, tooling needs, and fabrication processes.
- Calculate material usage, labour costs, machine time, and overhead to develop accurate pricing.
- Collaborate with suppliers to get pricing on raw materials and outsourced processes.
- Maintain and update the database of pricing, labour rates, and material costs.
- Assist in preparing and submitting quotes to customers within specified deadlines.
- Participate in project handovers to ensure smooth transition from estimating to production.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and suggest process improvements.
- Support team, manager and project initiatives.
- Support and complete RFQ’s for our Sales team
- Review and analyze quotes and prepare estimates
- Work closely with our Fabrication and Production departments, and finishing subcontractors
- Source new suppliers and maintain Approved Supplier List
- Create purchase orders (PO) completely and accurately for our outside service providers (OSP)
- Review Change report and update PO’s as required
- WIP open order report maintenance - Follow up and update order status at our OSP while ensuring orders remain on time
- Maintenance of clear and updated records in EPICS for inventory purposes by reviewing receiving reports from shipping as well as keeping any scrap up to date
- Create nonconformance reports (NCR) relating to OSP open orders
- Updating and creating various documents (i.e. standard operating procedures, policies and procedures)
- Release engineering drawings internally and to our OSPs
- Fill in for OSP Coordinator in their absence or in overflow scenarios.
- Be a strong team player and provide support to team members when needed
- Act as back-up for other department staff
- Perform other related duties as assigned
