Dean of Students

Unionville College (UC) is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Dean of Students to oversee student life and well-being. The Dean of Students will play a pivotal role in fostering a positive school environment and supporting the holistic development of our students. This position reports directly to the Vice Principal and Principal and collaborates closely with faculty and staff across UC campuses.

**Responsibilities**:

- Oversee student life and well-being at UC, addressing student behavioral and academic concerns in coordination with teachers and Principals.
- Monitor Teaching Assistant (TA) work hours and timesheets, ensuring proper training on Homebase and providing assistance as needed to hourly staff.
- Assist the Vice Principal in managing and overseeing TAs for specific skill development through regular staff meetings and active programs to enhance staff retention.
- Coordinate guest speaker arrangements and manage logistics for their presentations.
- Organize and manage student activities and events, including leadership roles such as Prefects, Student Council, and House Team Captains.
- Coordinate House Teams and assemblies, ensuring students are in correct uniforms and that all activities reflect UC's brand and standards.
- Assist at Staff Professional Development (PD) sessions, aiding the VP in the PD agenda for TA's.
- Edit report cards and follow up with teachers as necessary.
- Organize and monitor enrichments, after-school clubs, and tutoring, evaluating their effectiveness and providing reports to the Elementary Principal and Director of Education.
- Act as the school liaison and representative for all parent committees and organize and attend all events like Fun Fair and Parent Gala.
- Assist with the organization of School Curriculum Nights and Open House events. During the events providing information to parents including on admissions processes and entrance assessments.
- Enforce student policies and procedures, monitor attendance, and implement school policies regarding tardiness and uniform compliance.
- Collaborate with UC Admin team to place orders for school supplies and textbooks
- Conduct entrance assessments and report results to the Admin Team.
- Support HR in organizing staff social events such as Christmas parties.
- Facilitate new family welcome and student mentorship programs, ensuring a smooth transition and ongoing support.
- Coordinate in-school presentations and events, collaborating with homeroom teachers and arts departments for assemblies, concerts, and plays.
- Organize awards ceremonies, closing day ceremonies, and Speech Festivals.
- Implement the school’s medical administration policy, including the management of EpiPens.
- Assist in developing the school year calendar in collaboration with Administrative Assistants, incorporating all school events and presentations.
- Support the Vice Principal in TA hiring processes and interview and hire lunch and after-school staff.
- Provide strategic direction and implement student life programming, utilizing research and best practices to enhance student experience.
- Supervise students and train lunch and after-school supervisors in behavioral management techniques, actively monitoring student activities and ensuring a safe and positive school environment.
- May have responsibilities to teach one course as required.

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s degree in Education.
- Previous experience in student affairs, educational leadership, or related fields.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, faculty, and staff.
- Demonstrated commitment to student development and well-being.

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Markham, ON: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)

**Experience**:

- Teaching: 5 years (preferred)
- Leadership: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

- OCT Certification (required)
