**The Opportunity**

- Commensurate with Education and Experience.Reporting to the Manager of Learning and Development, the Educator prepares regulated and unregulated staff for their roles as caregivers or regulated nurses in a variety of care settings. The Educator provides leadership in the clinical practice setting, while supporting staff in coaching and skills updates. The Educator assists in the development, execution, and revision of teaching materials in alignment with Provincial legislation and standards and organizational requirements. This role provide orientation to new employees, coaches existing employee and is a resource for any additional education requests to facilitate safe and quality person centered resident care.
The Educator holds an important role in the support of staff to achieve competent, safe, and ethical care for their residents/clients.

**Accountabilities**
- Coaches staff in the safe use of equipment, body mechanics, care specifics, and best practices on an ongoing basis
- Participates in assessing, planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating education programs and tactical planning
- Facilitates education programs that maintain competency of staff according to GSS policies and procedures
- Maintains the standards of Learning and Development and identifies opportunities for improvement by seeking feedback from stakeholders
- Works effectively as a member of the Learning and Development team and site team by attending and contributing to meetings and maintaining healthy working relationships
- Identifies and defines barriers to quality resident/client care and provides innovative and collaborative solutions
- Provides support to site/program managers i.e. assessing staff skills and knowledge
- Provides education reports and confirmation of attendance
- Establishes relationships and facilitates effective knowledge exchange as it relates to the management of clinical practice
- Assists with quality improvement plans
- Works effectively as a member to the care home team by attending and contributing to meetings and maintaining healthy working relationships
- Demonstrates injury and accident prevention
- Assesses coaching requests and evaluates the needs of employees after consultation with Program/Care Manager or Manager of Learning and Development
- Participates in the review and development of policies and procedures
- Collaborates with Site/Program Managers to ensure that the educational needs of the care homes/programs are met and GSS initiatives are completed
- Maintains knowledge of relevant legislation and best practices
- Maintains and submits accurate records and reports
- Manages the delivery of educational services to care homes/programs
- Demonstrates dependability by reporting to work on time and as scheduled
- Adheres to all infection control practices and procedures
- Ensures an environment and resources which nurture spirituality
- Other related duties as assigned

**Qualifications**
- Licensed Practical Nurse - current registration, and in good standing with CLPNA
- Certification in Gerontology would be an asset
- Three to five years working with the frail elderly or in senior’s health care
- Three to five years adult education experience
