**About the Opportunity**:
**Responsibilities**:
- Develop and standardize comprehensive Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans for the OPOR system across the Nova Scotia province.
- Lead standardization sessions with multiple OPOR stakeholders to determine workflows, practices, and policies across the Nova Scotia Health (NSH) and IWK Health.
- Design and document detailed downtime procedures for various scenarios, ensuring mínimal disruption to patient care.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify potential threats and vulnerabilities to system availability.
- Design and implement testing strategies to validate the effectiveness of BCP/DR plans.
- Coordinate with technical teams to confirm that appropriate infrastructure and systems are in place to support continuity and recovery objectives.
- Develop training programs to educate staff on BCP/DR procedures and their roles during downtime events.
- Regularly review and update BCP/DR plans to reflect changes in technology, processes, or organizational structure.
- Conduct annual test of BCP / DR procedures to confirm their function.
- Lead the response effort during actual downtime or disaster events, coordinating activities across all relevant teams.
- Stay current with industry best practices and regulatory requirements related to business continuity and disaster recovery in healthcare.
- Confirm that Nova Scotia Health (NSH) and IWK Health maintain ISO-22301 standard and other disaster recovery benchmarks.
**Deliverables**:
- Comprehensive Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plan
- Detailed strategies and procedures for maintaining operations during system disruptions.
- Clearly defined roles and responsibilities for all stakeholders during downtime events.
- Downtime Procedure Documentation
- Step-by-step guides for maintaining critical operations during system outages.
- Customized procedures for different facility types (urban vs. rural) and departments.
- Risk Assessment and Mitigation Strategy
- Thorough analysis of potential risks to system availability and operational continuity.
- Prioritized list of mitigation strategies with associated costs and benefits.
- BCP/DR Training Program and Materials
- Curriculum for staff training on downtime procedures and disaster recovery processes.
- Training effectiveness assessments and improvement recommendations.
- Regular BCP/DR Plan Review and Update Reports
- Scheduled reviews of BCP/DR plans with documented changes and rationale.
- Annual Downtime Testing Procedures
- Detailed summary of approach to test validity of OPOR’s downtime procedures as part of annual operations.
**About You**:
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science Information systems or health related field. Consideration may be given to those with equivalent training and work experience
Project Management and change management certification would be considered an asset
- Minimum of 3- 5 years of experience in Clinical Application implementation, in IT disaster recovery and business continuity planning. BCP / DR experience in healthcare settings is preferred.
- Relevant certifications such as CBCP (Certified Business Continuity Professional) or MBCP (Master Business Continuity Professional) preferred'
- Current Certification in one or more of Clinical Applications
- Working understanding of healthcare operations, clinical workflows, and regulatory requirements
- Familiarity with EMR systems; Oracle Health’s Cerner Millennium solutions are preferred
- Experience in risk assessment and management methodologies
- Excellent project management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities
- Strong leadership and stakeholder management abilities
