The Boys and Girls Club of Fort Saskatchewan is a nonprofit youth serving organization that has worked with children, youth and families for over 30 years. We are a member of Boys and Girls Club of Canada and offer a range of programs and services for the community. We strive to provide an inclusive environment for children, youth and families of all backgrounds.
JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to team leadership, the youth and family support worker will be responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of programs and workshops that will assist the BGC clients and community members of Fort Saskatchewan. Youth and family support worker, will work one on one with families and youth to identify needs, develop goals, create action plans and follow through with connecting clients with community, provincial and federal support services. This position is also responsible for submitting referrals, keeping detailed case files, supporting youth and families, and determining relevant resources to provide wrap around support.
The Youth and Family Support Worker
REFERRAL AND NAVIGATIONAL SUPPORT
- Works alongside families to identify strengths, develop goals, and create action steps to address the families concerns/priorities.
- Works directly with youth and families to strengthen parent/child relationships and expand the family’s resources.
- Provides the family with tools to increase parent/caregiver capacity, increase knowledge of healthy child development, and increase natural support networks
- ability to refer to appropriate professionals and services.
- Provides follow-up with families to ensure referrals have been utilized and are meeting the family’s needs and provide on going support to families as required.
CLIENT SERVICES
- Conduct in person one-on-one meetings with families to assess their situations and need for assistance.
- Provide emotional, informational, and tangible support to families and refer to the appropriate professionals and services.
- Employ follow up meetings and schedule appointments.
- Provide crisis relief resource options and/ or preventative resources for families.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
- Develop and maintain partnerships with community groups, support agencies, schools and other local organizations to enhance services delivery to clients.
- Develop network opportunities, attend community meetings
- actively engage with community through participation in local support agency events and workshops.
- Keep up to date on changes to initiatives, practices, and supports.
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND PROMOTION
- Implement existing youth and family programming, identify and develop NEW programs in response to trends and community demands.
- Execute outreach to ensure families are receiving information on services and programs in a timely manner.
DESIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
- Diploma or Degree in social services, mental health, human services or a related field, or a demonstrated combination of education and training.
- Experience in providing human services.
- Experience in planning, implementing and evaluating programs with confident knowledge of community resources.
- Exhibit a high level of personal initiative along with planning and organizational capabilities.
- Strong attention to detail, maintain a constant awareness of the client, exhibit recognition and appreciation of their needs, and achieve positive outcomes for individuals and families within the program.
CANIDATES MUST HAVE or are willing to obtain:
- Current First Aid Certification
- Current Suicide Intervention Training/ ASIST/ Mental Health First Aid
- Criminal Record Check
- Child Welfare Intervention Record Check
- Attention given to experience in trauma informed practices, diverse and traditional programming participation in community led groups, organizations and support networks.
