Raft Guide

Our raft guides create unforgettable memories for our guests through strong leadership qualities, an engaging personality and the safe operation of our rafting vessels. This role involves both on-river and off-river responsibilities. All first-year raft guides are required to attend our on-site training program at the beginning of May prior to running solo trips with commercial passengers.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Study and learn information from our guide manual about the tidal bore, Mi’kmaq history and culture, and the wildlife and geology of the Shubenacadie River. Deliver this information accurately while injecting your own personality to engage and entertain our guests.
- Maintain an accurate trip log and complete pre-trip boat inspections with attention to detail.
- Ensure proper fueling and maintenance of our vessels under the supervision of a Trip Leader.
- Perform pre-trip safety orientations for passengers according to our guide manual.
- Report any mechanical or operational deficiencies to the River Operations Manager.
- Daily cleaning duties including boats, passenger gear and general duties around the property.
- Greeting our guests when they check-in and assisting with the organization of large groups.
- Arrive on time for scheduled shifts - our trips are timed with the incoming tide and punctuality and reliability are key components of delivering a stellar experience for our guests. Your 8-hour shift may fall anywhere between the hours of 5:30am - 9:00pm.
- All of our raft guides will also have some hours scheduled at our front desk processing bookings for rafting and accommodations using Checkfront, our online booking system.

**SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE**
- Must be friendly and outgoing with strong communication skills.
- An interest in tourism and a desire to provide a world-class experience for our guests.
- Ability to work well with a team including other raft guides and guest services agents while following the instructions of our trip leaders and management.
- Leadership skills and the ability to take command and direct groups of people in various situations while keeping the guest experience fun and positive.
- Strong swimming abilities and the desire to learn motorized rafting skills.
- Safety-oriented and willing to follow all safety policies with great attention to detail.
- Experience working with Mi’kmaq or Indigenous communities is an asset.
- Raft guides must have valid Standard First Aid + CPR training. We offer an annual certification course at the beginning of each season for those who do not meet this requirement.
- All raft guides must be at least 18-years-old to meet Transport Canada requirements.
- Prior river guiding experience is a bonus, but not required.
- Reliable transportation to our property in Urbania, Nova Scotia.
- Must be able to lift at least 75lbs.
