Assistant Banquet Manager

Summary
Reporting to the Banquet Manager, the Assistant Banquet Manager is responsible for overseeing the Banquet department and coordinating the Hotel’s meeting room products and services in keeping with brand standards.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervise, support and direct the team with day-to-day operations in order to meet and exceed Convenor and Guest expectations within pre-determined standards and protocols. Work with third party contractors commissioned in the execution of events
- Understands the impact of Banquet operations on the overall success of an event and manages activities to maximize customer satisfaction
- Interacts with guests to obtain feedback on product quality and service levels
- Works to achieve and maintain high guest satisfaction metrics and employee engagement
- Monitoring and control of banquet china, cutlery, glassware, linen and equipment
- Monitors trends and competitive analysis for new and innovative banquet presentations and set ups
- Applies and continually broadens knowledge of food and wine pairings and cutting-edge cuisine with emphasis on current event trends
- Acts as a liaison to the kitchen staff
- Strives to improve service performance
- Provides ongoing training and development of banquet team members
- Assists with interviewing and recommending hiring new team members within department consistent with company policies
- Conducts daily shift briefings to energize and motivate team members following brand service messaging and standards
- Coach and counsel team members to achieve optimal performance, productivity and service delivery
- Actively supports hotel’s Health & Safety and Employee Representative Committee
**Requirements**:
- Degree or Diploma in Hotel Management or equivalent
- Minimum 2 years experience as an Assistant Banquet Manager/Supervisor in a hotel or large conference facility
- Computer proficient in hotel management software, billing, payroll and Microsoft Office
- Extensive knowledge of food, beverage, wine and industry trends
**Skills**:
- Ability to lead a large and diverse workforce
- Highly organized and strong communication skills
- Critical thinking and ability to flex within short timelines
- Manage relationships with internal and external key stakeholders
- Knowledge of heath and safety, food safety, Smart Serve, AGCO, collective agreement and employment laws
