Tennis Instructor

Since its opening in 1980, the Columbus Centre has served as a vibrant community centre where people can enjoy the richness of Italian culture within a Canadian setting. Today, the Columbus Centre remains a major hub for the GTA’s Italian Canadian community, and a popular meeting place frequented by more than 150,000 visitors every year. Patrons of all ages and ethnicities visit the Columbus Centre for dance, visual arts, music, Italian language, and children’s camps; view art exhibitions at the Joseph D. Carrier Art Gallery; attend cultural events and programming; and participate in a wide range of athletic, aquatic and wellness programs at our expansive Athletic Club.

The Columbus Centre Athletic Club offers General Fitness Memberships and Executive Membership services at affordable prices.

Our fitness facility provides an extensive array of racquet sports including, Tennis, Pickleball, Squash, personal training options, group fitness classes including spinning, body tone, boot camp, ZUMBA®, and Circuit 55+. We also provide various yoga classes, squash lessons, and, boxing. With our indoor swimming pool, we offer swimming lessons and aqua fitness.

We are looking for Tennis Instructors that want to bring their love of teaching the tennis to our patrons. Tennis Coaches provide training who wish to learn how to play tennis, improve their tennis skills, or compete in tennis tournaments. They coordinate individual and group tennis lessons, develop training programs based on patrons' tennis skills, and evaluate patrons’ performance.

Key job accountabilities include but are not limited to:

- Assisting patrons in developing and improving various tennis skills.
- Assessing patrons'(Junior and Adult) tennis skills to determine areas in need of improvement.
- Coordinating and conducting individual and group tennis lessons.
- Developing suitable training programs for patrons based on their age, objectives, and individual skillsets.
- Developing innovative ways to assist beginner or younger students in learning and remembering the rules of the game.
- Identifying the learning styles that work best for each patron and adapting all coaching methods accordingly.
- Providing a secure and productive learning environment for patrons.
- Attending tennis matches, competitions, and tournaments as required.
- Works closely with the Tennis Coordinator to introduce new and exciting class options to our participants.
- Ensures all possible safety measures are observed.
- Communicates and enforces facility and class policies and procedures.
- Provides excellent customer service, including interacting with participants and/or parents to answer questions and resolve problems. Must be able to maintain a calm composure when working with angry or upset customers.
- Attends and participates in meetings and training sessions.
- Reports any situations and/or areas of concern to the supervisor
Desired Qualifications
- Proven experience working as a Tennis Coach or Instructor.
- Minimum Club Pro 1 Certification
- Current TPA Certified
- Vulnerable Sector Police Background/Criminal check
- Sound knowledge of various coaching techniques.
- CPR and first aid certifications.
- The ability to motivate students.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional communication and customer service skills.
- A passion for tennis.
