**CAREER INFORMATION ADVISOR**

Richmond School District operates 38 elementary schools, 10 secondary schools, alternate programs, continuing education and a number of additional facilities. The district enrolls approximately 21,000 students (K-12) and employs over 3000 dedicated staff.

This position provides career and educational planning information and advice to students regarding post secondary options. The incumbent obtains, updates and organizes materials and information for the Career Resource Centre. This position is under the supervision of the school Administrator, receives instructions from the District Career Programs Coordinator, and direction from Teacher Counsellors.

**Major Duties and Responsibilities**
- Obtains, organizes and promotes Career Resource materials such as post secondary calendars, career information, booklets, pamphlets, classification reference manuals, labour market information and scholarship, bursary and other funding sources.
- Ensures information is current and organized.
- Distributes and signs out materials to students and teachers.
- Explores career and post-secondary options with students on an individual basis or in a class setting.
- Provides information related to post secondary education, vocational training, and apprenticeship programs.
- Responds to inquiries and provides information to students, teachers, employer-sponsors and scholarship donors with regard to the Career Resource Centre and available services.
- Sets up displays of career and post secondary educational resource materials and prepares announcements for job fairs, guest speakers and student employment opportunities.
- Posts information from employers regarding employment opportunities.
- In collaboration with counsellors or District Career Programs Coordinator, coordinates school/community career events and presentations by contacting and booking speakers, assigning rooms, arranging teacher hosts and making other required arrangements.
- Maintains National Occupational Classification information and filing systems.
- Performs clerical duties related to the position.
- Produces memos, bulletins, letters and other general correspondence as necessary.
- Maintains familiarity and keeps current with changes affecting post secondary institutions and labour market trends.
- Performs other job related and clerical duties of comparable importance, difficulty and responsibility as required.

**Required Qualifications**
- Grade 12 supplemented by Career Counselling courses from a recognized institution plus one (1) year experience working with adolescents or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with Counsellors, Teachers and Administrators. Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with students.
- Ability to organize workload, meet deadlines and complete assignments with mínimal supervision.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment.

This is a unionized position with CUPE local 716. The successful incumbent will receive a comprehensive benefits package including extended health and dental care, Municipal Pension Plan, paid leaves, and more. This is an in-person, 10-month (September to June), 35 hour/week position.
