**Huron Stewardship Council Species at Risk Field Coordinator**

The Huron Stewardship Council (HSC) is looking to hire a Species at Risk Field Coordinator who will take a leadership role in implementing two Species at Risk (SAR) reptile monitoring projects and monitoring an at-risk plant population in the Maitland River watershed. Additional duties may also include assisting with reptile education programs, coastal ecosystem monitoring, and some forest conservation work. This position offers a leadership role in three species at risk research projects that directly contribute to recovery efforts, as well as the involvement in various other conservation projects. The duration of the contract will be for March 10th to December 12th, 2025, at $24/hour for 35 hours per week. This position will report to the County Biologist/Stewardship Coordinator.

Duties Include:

- Monitoring species-at-risk turtle and snake populations (including visual surveys, mark-recapture, & radio telemetry), including the organization of day-to-day field activities.
- Monitoring at risk plant population (including visual surveys and site maintenance)
- Conducting periodic breeding bird surveys and vegetation surveys in coastal ecosystems
- Data entry, organization, and analysis for a variety of SAR data, and assisting in the permit and grant reporting processes
- Supervision and training of field staff
- Coordinating the scheduling of and assisting with the training of a team of volunteers
- Coordinating SAR turtle nesting surveys and egg collection efforts
- Assisting with SAR turtle egg and hatchling care
- Habitat restoration as opportunities arise, occasional work in County Forest tracts

Qualifications:

- Enrolled in or possessing a post-secondary education in ecology, wildlife conservation, biology, environmental science, or a related discipline
- Experience participating in wildlife research projects, and with radio-telemetry; possessing basic identification skills of various flora and fauna considered an asset.
- Strong interest in reptile conservation and comfortable handling snakes and turtles
- Detail-oriented, with the ability to follow protocols and stay organized
- Experience working as part of a team; experience managing volunteers and working with landowners or conservation partners an asset
- Physically fit with the ability to work outdoors in adverse conditions (rain, heat, biting insects)
- Strong organizational skills and experience with data collection, management
- Self-motivated with demonstrated ability to work with mínimal supervision, think critically, and troubleshoot problems
- Ability to work on weekends and evenings, as necessary
- Valid class G licence; access to a vehicle considered an asset (all work-related mileage compensated)
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certifications
