BrightStar Respite is seeking a dedicated and experienced Health Care Aide to provide critical overnight care for a child with severe physical disability. This specialized role requires extensive experience with mobility equipment, personal care assistance, and the ability to work independently during night shifts while ensuring the highest level of care and safety.

**Schedule**: Monday night to Thursday night, 9:00 PM - 7:00 AM

**Location**: Fort Saskatchewan

**Start Date**: Sunday, November 2, 2025

**Shift Type**: Awake overnight shift with constant monitoring required

**About the Role**

This is a highly specialized position caring for a child with severe physical disability who requires continuous overnight monitoring and comprehensive personal care assistance. You will be responsible for operating specialized mobility equipment, providing hands-on personal care, and ensuring safety and comfort throughout the night shift.

**Key Responsibilities**

**Personal Care & Mobility Assistance**:

- Provide continuous overnight monitoring of child with severe physical disability
- Operate Hoyer lift safely and efficiently for all transfers
- Support bed to wheelchair transfers using proper techniques and equipment
- Assist with feeding, ensuring proper positioning and safety protocols
- Provide comprehensive dressing and undressing assistance
- Support complete bedtime routine and overnight positioning care

**Safety & Monitoring**:

- Maintain constant vigilance for safety and comfort throughout the shift
- Monitor for any changes in condition or positioning needs
- Ensure proper body positioning and pressure relief protocols
- Respond immediately to any emergencies or changes in condition
- Maintain safe environment and equipment operation

**Documentation & Communication**:

- Document all activities, transfers, and care provided using BrightStar Respite software
- Record feeding intake, positioning changes, and any observations
- Complete comprehensive shift summaries and handover reports
- Provide clear handover information to family and day staff

**Professional Development**:

- Attend minimum 2 professional development training sessions monthly
- Participate in monthly staff meetings
- Maintain current certifications and continuing education requirements

**Probationary Period**: 90 days

**Required Qualifications**

**Education & Registration**:

- Nursing background may be considered
- Current registration and good standing with Alberta Health Care Aide Directory

**Mandatory Documentation (all must be dated within 6 months)**:

- Clear Criminal Background Check with vulnerable sector screening (Edmonton Police Services)
- Clear Child Intervention Check (Alberta Child and Family Services)
- Current First Aid/CPR Level C certification
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License with access to reliable vehicle

**Essential Experience**:

- **Hoyer lift operation** - demonstrated competency and safety protocols
- **Transfer techniques** - bed to wheelchair and positioning expertise
- **Personal care assistance** - feeding, dressing, and hygiene support
- **Physical disability care** - experience with children requiring total care
- **Mobility equipment** - wheelchairs, positioning devices, and adaptive equipment
- **Safety protocols** - pressure relief, positioning, and emergency procedures

**Technical Skills**:

- Competency with BrightStar Respite documentation software
- Ability to operate and maintain mobility and care equipment

**Professional Requirements**

**Dress Code & Presentation**:

- Professional scrubs required at all times
- BrightStar Respite work ID must be visible
- Safe, appropriate indoor footwear mandatory
- Professional appearance and demeanor

- Attendance at monthly staff meetings (mandatory)
- Participation in minimum 2 professional development sessions monthly
- Commitment to ongoing education and skill development
- Adherence to all BrightStar policies and procedures

**Physical Requirements**

This position requires:
