The Fleet Technician is responsible for performing skilled tasks in all aspects of work related to the maintenance and repair of all vehicles, heavy equipment, power equipment, emergency (fire) vehicles, and any other equipment in the Town’s fleet inventory.

**How you contribute to our organization**:

- Performs regular maintenance and repairs on all vehicles and heavy equipment in the Town’s fleet including, but not limited to snowplows, backhoes, graders, loaders, automobiles, dump trucks, pick-up trucks, street sweepers, sidewalk machines, combination sewer trucks, fire vehicles, mowers, small equipment and ice re-surfacers.
- Performs regular maintenance and repairs on all emergency (fire) vehicles.
- Carries out preventative maintenance inspections and services to reduce department equipment down time and minimize wear on vehicles and equipment and informs the Supervisor or Senior Fleet Technician of any major deficiencies.
- Performs annual periodic mandatory commercial vehicle inspections (PMCVIs) as per the Ministry of Transportation Motor Vehicle Inspection Station Guidelines.
- Informs the Supervisor of parts inventory to maintain adequate stock to complete necessary maintenance.
- Operates various diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, electronic, drive train and engine problems (such as laptop computers, scan tools and multi-meters).
- Performs service and emergency calls, repairing vehicles or equipment in the field as required.
- Assesses condition of vehicle parts and components, obtains quotes and submits orders.
- Utilizes welding equipment to fabricate components as required.
- Installs Global Positioning System (GPS), idle shutdown and communications systems.
- Operates all vehicles and heavy equipment as required for inspection and diagnostic purposes and to conduct road tests.
- Provides input for tender specifications for the purchase of new and replacement fleet inventory.
- Creates and maintains accurate records of vehicle and equipment maintenance in accordance with provincial standards.
- Attends training as required to maintain and increase skills and knowledge.
- Interacts directly with internal customers and provides training to Town staff with respect to the operation of vehicles and equipment.
- Works in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and all applicable Town policies, procedures and guidelines, including wear and use of protective devices, clothing and footwear, safe operation of equipment, use of hazardous materials and reporting workplace hazards.
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
- Participates in rotating on-call responsibilities.
- Must supply own tools and tool chest.

**What you bring to the team**:

- Grade 12 high school diploma.
- Valid Truck and Coach Technician License (310T), Automotive Technician Licence (310S) in good standing with the Ontario College of Trades.
- Valid Emergency Vehicle Technician Level 1 Certificate or willing to obtain.
- Valid Emergency Vehicle Technician Level 2 Certificate or willing to obtain.
- Valid Emergency Vehicle Technician Level 3 Certificate or willing to obtain.
- Must have a minimum Class G driver’s licence.
- Must be licenced by the MTO to certify equipment.
- Valid First Aid and CPR.
- Valid Ontario Class “D” Driver’s licence with a “Z” endorsement in good standing is preferred.
- Ozone Depletion Prevention (ODP) Certification is preferred.
- Requires 3-4 years of experience as a Truck and Coach Technician.
- Must have good understanding of fleet operations with regard to repair requirements, scheduling, and maintaining an operating fleet.
- Good math, oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to read specification sheets.
- Thorough knowledge of hydraulic systems, gas/diesel engines, air braking systems, steering systems, electrical components, snowplow equipment, transmissions, and axles.

**Pay Rate**:$36.81 - $46.01, plus employer paid benefits and OMERS pension plan. $1/hour will be paid for each valid Emergency Vehicle Technician certification level, to a maximum of Emergency Vehicle Technician Level 3.
**Hours**:40 hours per week, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday
