**Job Description**:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Coordinator and working within a multi-disciplinary team, the Dietitian-Renal Unit provides a broad spectrum of nutrition services to clients of the Renal Program; applies extensive knowledge, skill and clinical experience to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nutritional goals and care plans; utilizes advanced clinical techniques such as urea kinetic modeling as well as knowledge of renal failure treatment modalities, prescription and regime to enhance assessment and care plans; participates in the development of nutritional practice guidelines and procedures for the hospital and provincial renal programs; and initiates practice-based research projects in collaboration with the health care team.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education, Training And Experience**:
Baccalaureate degree in nutrition and dietetics. Graduate of an accredited Dietetic Internship Program or an equivalent acceptable to the facility. Registration with the current licensure in a practicing category with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC as a Dietitian. Eligible for membership with the Dietitians of Canada (DC). Two (2) years recent, related experience in clinical dietetics including one (1) year recent experience in renal nutrition.

- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to assess clients with multi-system nutritional problems
- Demonstrated knowledge of renal failure nutrition management and principles of education
- Demonstrated knowledge/experience with managing patients on IDPN
- Ability to organize work and set priorities
- Ability to exercise critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Ability to operate related equipment, including computer and software.
- Ability to counsel and teach clients with chronic disease, from varied educational and social backgrounds.
- Ability to develop practice guidelines within a program.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
