**LOCATION**:
This position will be based around our St. Thomas/London Ontario area operations with travel required to other operations.

**PURPOSE OF THE POSITION**:
Signals & Communication (S&C) personnel play a critical role in the installation, repair, and maintenance of essential equipment, including signals, crossing lights and other vital infrastructure.

**POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES**:

- Autonomous work environment on specific job assignments throughout assigned territory
- Align with company & regulatory rules and policies
- Digging, cable repair, housing keeping, assembly of signal equipment, wiring of signal equipment, pole line work
- Repairing and/or replacing damaged equipment, test and verify accurate operation of S&C systems and equipment
- Performing preventive maintenance on all S&C apparatus
- Performing inspections and testing as required on each device
- Reporting problems; failures or unsafe conditions
- Responding to reported problems to return equipment to proper operation
- Ensuring there is enough material on hand to permit work or repairs to be completed without undue delay
- Other general duties including performing cable locates, painting, and housekeeping of signal housings & equipment and climbing ladders

**POSITION REQUIREMENTS**:

- Previous experience or qualifications in signal maintenance in a railway environment is required
- High school diploma or general equivalency
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Valid driver's license to operate company vehicle
- Acquire certifications in GIO's safety rules
- Available to work all types of shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays in all weather conditions
- Proven knowledge and understanding of signaling systems from railroad or related industry
- Strong communication skills (provide clear and concise instructions/directions including over telephone and radio)
- An emphasis on safety is essential for all employees. This is a high-risk environment - working around heavy moving equipment
