Addictions Counselor Iii

Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Care Manager of AMH Supported Housing, the Addiction Counsellor III (AC III) is an integral part of a multidisciplinary team that provides quality, client-focused, culturally appropriate outreach services. This role is responsible for supporting individuals residing in one of the Bridge Housing sites who require high-intensity community-based services within the Edmonton zone. The AC III brings a holistic approach to comprehensive assessment, intervention, and evaluation, respecting the uniqueness of each individual within a recovery-oriented service delivery model. Assertive and persistent outreach, along with individual and group interventions, are utilized to engage program participants, facilitate recovery from substance use, addiction, and mental health concerns, and create a planning partnership to achieve the highest level of community functioning with the least ongoing professional support. Essential to this position is an understanding of how addiction and substance use impact mental health and one's ability to maintain secure, long-term housing. The incumbent must possess successful engagement and assessment skills, along with a thorough understanding and implementation of recovery-oriented care. Concurrent capable practice is expected. Interventions designed for individuals will be based on their presentation and personally defined goals. The AC III will be responsible for direct client care in coordination with other team members, housing providers, and agency staff. The AC III will actively participate in innovative, evidence-informed practices and relevant research/evaluation projects. Participation in community development and capacity-building activities that promote the development of an enhanced continuum of effective addiction and mental health services is essential.

Description:
As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as community stabilization services. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.

**Required Qualifications**:
Bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.

3-5 years' experience in a community mental health and/or addictions setting preferred. Excellent communication and self-management skills. Knowledge of concurrent capable practice. Experience working with multiple community partners is an asset
