ROLE SUMMARY: Reporting into the Plant Manager, the HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) Coordinator will organize and document the development of HSE related programs and systems within all Redwood Plastics and Rubber locations. The incumbent will establish and promote the maintenance of safe and healthy working conditions and develop environmental protection methods based upon best practices and in accordance with Provincial and Federal legislation. These procedures must be practical and achievable while producing goods in a safe and efficient manner. The HSE coordinator is the main labor and industries liaison with outside organizations. They will maintain a positive and professional attitude in all aspects of this position. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Drive the COR certification in all Redwood locations. Audit programs annually and provide updates including: - Mobile equipment training - Noise/Hearing conservation - First aid - Boot Allowance - Respiratory - Contractor Safety - Maintain "return to work" program. - Workplace inspections - Isocyanates Control - Tool Training program - MOCA handling - JHSC - Pallet Rack Program - New Employee Orientations - SWP and JHA Develop and maintain cost-effective HSE programs that comply with regulations relating to safety and the environment. Prepare required reports to regulatory agencies as requested. Manage interactions with WorkSafe BC, L&I, and other labor and industries organizations: - First point of contact - Develop and submit reports as required. - Investigate and defend company. - WorkSafe claims. - Keep up to date on current and upcoming regulations. Investigate accidents and near misses thoroughly and effectively. Develop Standards of Procedure (SOPs) to reduce safety/environmental risks and address emergency situations. Review materials used by manufacturing and maintain the SDS database Maintain a comprehensive and organized recordkeeping system so operations is capable of verifying compliance with all applicable regulations. Support commitment company has made to PMA by implementing the PMA Certification program for - Level 2 Compliance - Level 3 Leadership - Level 4 Mentoring Maintain a positive and proactive relationship with WorkSafe BC, L&I, and other labor industries and follow reporting requirements. Investigate accidents and near misses thoroughly and effectively and respond appropriately as required. Track and report KPI's on a regular basis: - Lost days - Claims - Type of incidents - Incidents by department - Near Miss - Total incidents Provide guidance and support to management on all HSE issues. Support and advise managers/supervisors in charge of implementation, compliance, and enforcement of HSE for All Redwood locations as required. Maintain and control the safety consumables. Manage HSE program budget and expense spending. Participate in /chair different location safety meetings. Administer and maintain company WHMIS program and compliance. Coordinate orientation, on-boarding and learning programs. Assists with HR projects and perform other duties as required. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School graduation or equivalent. Successful completion of a certificate or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or in a similar field. Extensive knowledge of OHS regulations in British Columbia and Canada, including WorkSafe BC regulations, Workers' Compensation Act, WHMIS and any other applicable legislation. Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience or a combination of education and experience in a manufacturing environment. Minimum requirement of Occupational First Aid Level 2 Prior experience with implementing various safety initiatives, reporting lost-time injuries, developing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Experience in planning and delivering safety training programs. Strong team management, interpersonal skills.
