**Boat Operator (Desolation Sound) Job Description**

**General Overview and Duties**:
The Marine Host position within Desolation Sound is unique in its operating area, and duties are vast. The Operating Area and Season Schedule are Listed in Schedule 2 of the Park Use Permit, which are available in hard copy in the Operators Manual that has been provided, as well as and Electronic Color copy for better visual distinction. The Marine Host Position includes the entire operating area listed with the exclusion of Tux’wnech Okeover Arm Campground. Duties include and are not limited to the following:

- Work in conjunction with the South Area Manager and Okeover Arm Host, Quality Manager and Park Operator to prepare PM project lists, and participate in performing PM projects in the Operating Area as required.
- Notify the Area Manager of concerns and deficiencies within the Operating Area including emerging safety and access issues, and changes to Park Operations that may affect Park Visitors use and enjoyment of the Park. cc the Quality Manager and Park Operator.
- Have a thorough knowledge of the Operating Area.
- Verify Park Visitors have proof of payment and collect fees from Visitors who have no proof of payment. Issue Receipts (McBees or receipt book if McBees are unavailable). Fees are to be recorded and submitted to the Area Manager monthly at a minimum.
- Issue warnings and evictions as needed to ensure Park Visitors comply with BC Parks applicable regulations and policies.
- Participate in monthly meetings with the Area Manager, Quality Manager and/or Park Operator to discuss Operating Area and report any concerns.
- Immediately report to the Area Manager and cc Quality Manager and Park Operator of any of the following events:

- Personal injury, bodily injury and property damage
- Damage to or theft of a Facility
- Any charges laid by the police force having jurisdiction over the Operating Area against a Park Visitor, (RCMP, First Nations, Conservation Officers, BC Park Rangers, etc)
- Disturbance caused by a Park Visitor
- Maintain Facilities and trails within the Operating Area to ensure safe and fully functional condition to meet the requirements set out in Schedule 7 - Facility Specifications (Hard Copy Included in the Operation Manual Provided)
- Participate in Pumping pit toilet barrels at all marine sites as required. Notify need to have pit toilets pumped in as much advance as possible.
- Collect Returnables from Okeover Arm and Saltery Bay Campground Day Use Boat Launch to donate to Powell River Therapeutic Riding Association.
- Maintain Landing Craft to ensure it is Transport Canada Compliant. Keep fuel fill log, weekly oil checks, and notify Park Operator (Jason McGrath) of any maintenance issues or repairs required. Completed logs are to be submitted monthly to the Area Manager for forwarding to the Quality Manager and Park Operator.
- Ensure all safety equipment is available and functional before each trip into the Operating Area.
- Advise Park Operator of any VISA purchases over $200
- All paper receipts for purchases are to be submitted to the Area Manager monthly at a minimum, for collection and batch submission to WRS.

**Expectations**:
General expectations of this and all positions with WRS include, but are not limited to the following:

- Promote and ensure health and safety in all parks.
- Represent BC Parks and WRS in a professional manner and will wear the position uniform
- Maintain communication with staff members and stakeholders as required.
- Report incidents and occurrences in a timely manor accurately and efficiently
- Adhere to the Schedule 7 Facility Maintenance Specifications and address how to identify, mitigate and report any threat to public safety related to the condition of infrastructure within the Operating Areas.
- Abide by the BC Park Act
- Participate in staff meetings
- Follow up on deficiency’s noted in inspections in required response time
- General inspections and maintenance or repair of power tools, within your abilities
- Detailing and washing of both inside and outside of company trucks and trailers (if applicable)
- Daily completion of required logbooks and reports as required

All employees are required to remain fit for duty for the entirety of their shift as per Worksafe BC legislation. If there is any medical or non-medical reason your ability to remain fit for duty may be inhibited, you must inform WRS upon acceptance of this offer. This includes medical use of cannabis.

**Requirements to be provided for Position**:

- Drivers abstract
- Criminal Record Check. You will be reimbursed for any cost associated with obtaining the CRC.
- Valid Class 5 drivers license
- Valid Small Vessel Operator License
