Shipper and Back-up Class 1 Driver

**Do you enjoy driving, but don’t want to be away from home for long periods at a time? Are you looking for more variety in your day to day work? **We are looking for a full time Shipper and back-up Class One Truck Driver to join the Transportation team on the day shift. This is a full-time permanent position with split responsibilities of shipping functions and providing back-up transportation services.

**Shift - Tuesday to Friday, between the hours of 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM**

**DUTIES**:

- Work as a member of a team with department leadership to run an effective, efficient department
- Provide motivation and direction to the shipping team and ensure their safety and well-being
- Inspect units prior to being received, ensuring that units meet quality, packaging and height restrictions and standards
- Scan units prior to storage or loading and insure units are stored and loaded into appropriate bin or van
- Physically transport units to and from the allocated bin
- Ensure units are stored and loaded into the bin or van in the proper order and ensure on
- time completion of the loads
- Train new staff
- Complete regular dock audits
- Build crates for glass and windows
- Flex and cross train as required by leadership
- Other duties as assigned

**AS BACK-UP CLASS ONE DRIVER, YOU WILL**:

- Provide transportation services between Steinbach, Winnipeg and surrounding based on business needs.
- Deliver product to customers, lead and assist with unloading, making sure unit count is correct and product is not damaged.
- Communicate with customers regarding the estimated time of arrival
- Keep open lines of communication with office staff for added assignments
- Conduct pre and post trip inspections, and schedule repairs and advise leadership as required
- Investigate local Spring Road Restrictions prior to delivering product
- Locate and relocate trailers to accommodate efficient loading and unloading
- Monitor trailers for tampering and communicate security concerns to Transportation

***THE SKILLS WE LOOK FOR**:

- Minimum 1 year driving experience
- Class 1 driver’s license with air brake endorsement
- Effective interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
- Strong mathematical skills
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- Strong focus on safety, quality and precision details
- Ability to frequently and safely lift up to 100 lbs
- Experience in manufacturing, wood working, carpentry, engineering, design/architecture is an asset
- Punctuality and team commitment
- Your own transportation is required
