Jean Tweed is a leading, community-based organization that provides a supportive environment for women with substance use, mental health, and gambling concerns. Recognizing the diversity of women’s experience in today’s society, our programs seek to address a range of issues in a woman’s life that may contribute to substance use and gambling concerns.

**Reaching Out to Women (ROW)**Program provides trauma-informed mental health and/or substance use counselling to women who are accessing shelters, drop-in centres, or who are involved in the justice system. Counselling for this ROW position is offered at a host site through the Jean Tweed Centre’s partnerships with the Fred Victor Centre. ROW also provides trauma-informed capacity building at host sites and within the mental health and substance use sectors. This role reports to the Senior Manager, Outpatient Services.

The Counsellor provides trauma-informed counselling services and psychotherapy to individuals and groups regarding substance use and/or mental health concerns.

**How will you help to get us there?**

As a Counsellor for ROW, you will:
**Service**
- Provide trauma-informed individual and/or group counselling and psychotherapy to support women with substance use and/or mental health concerns to meet their goals
- Provide referrals and liaise with existing supports to promote seamless and integrated care.
- Engage in capacity building within agencies and across the mental health and substance use sectors in the GTA for trauma-informed care.

**Administration**
- Maintain documentation of relevant client interactions and interventions, and contacts with collateral supports.
- Monitor the progress of clients, prepare reports and letters as necessary.
- Participate in staff meetings, team development and supervision meetings.
- Collaborate with supervisor to discuss job performance and establish professional goals.
- Engage in ongoing staff development and personal learning as agreed to in performance reviews.

**Organizational**
- Conduct job responsibilities with a commitment to harm reduction, trauma
- informed, women-centred and anti-oppressive practices.
- Abide by the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and work in a manner that is safe, reporting incidents immediately to direct supervisor.
- Adhere to the policies and procedures of The Jean Tweed Centre.
- Perform other duties as assigned in order to meet the overall goals and objectives of The Jean Tweed Centre.
- Maintain a client service orientation including learning about and addressing client needs and concerns.
- Work collaboratively including respect others, sharing information, consulting and celebrating shared successes.
- Demonstrate accountability by holding self responsible and following through on commitments.
- Support inclusion and equity by respecting others, embracing diversity and addressing oppression.

**What will you bring?**
- Master’s Degree in Social Work or equivalent.
- Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and licensed to conduct the controlled act of psychotherapy. Seasoned practitioners who are in the process of being licensed to conduct the controlled act of psychotherapy will also be considered.
- 3 years of experience working with trauma, mental health, and substance use. Experience with problem gambling is an asset.
- Working knowledge of trauma-informed practice, women centred principles and best practices for working with women and substance use and/or gambling.
- Experience in capacity building and the provision of training and consultation.
- Experience working with women who have been involved in the shelter system, criminal justice system, or had difficulty accessing appropriate health services.
- Excellent clinical skills including individual and group, brief and long-term counseling, trauma-informed practice.
- Knowledge of community resources and supports in the Toronto area.
- Ability to prepare and present information in both formal and informal settings.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
