**Duties**:
The student will be responsible for providing analysis of agricultural resource flows within major agricultural commodity value chains in Canada, including modeling spatial movement and transformation of agricultural commodities across Canada, estimating net export flows of major agricultural commodities between Canada and other trading partners, summary reports and analysis of the transformation of major agricultural commodities into agri-food products across Canada, assessments of usage of major agronomic nutrients, including nitrogen and phosphorus, contained in our agricultural commodity value chains, and mass balance estimates of their use and loss/waste from the agricultural value chain.

**Work environment**:
The project lead is located in Edmonton, AB, but project team members are located also in Lethbridge, AB and Regina, SK. Thus most project meetings are held virtually and telework is possible.

**Education**:
Currently accepted into or enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program in a recognized post-secondary academic institution with specialization in: agricultural economics, agricultural systems analysis, geography, or computer science.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
Experience* in analyzing and modeling agricultural economic micro-data.
- In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.

Competencies:
Looking for a graduate student with quantitative microeconomic analysis and modeling competencies, as well as the ability to work independently on project activities.

Abilities:
Ability to estimate basic statistical relationships with micro-economic agricultural commodity data.
Ability to analyze agronomic resource flows within agricultural commodity value chains.
Ability to analyze agricultural commodity chains from the farm producers to the food consumers.
