The work location is downtown Toronto near University Avenue and College Street.
Overview
Reporting to the Scientist, Medicinal Chemistry. the Scientist of Medicinal Chemistry will join our Discovery Research team to develop and advance new ligands for targeted radiopharmaceuticals. Research will be primarily focused on drug development of radioligand therapies in oncology. This position will fill an onsite laboratory role in Toronto, Ontario.
Accountabilities
- Design and execute multistep synthesis, purification, and characterization of oligopeptides and small molecules.
- Troubleshoot reactions and propose alternative synthetic scheme or reaction conditions when needed.
- Maintain a command of current scientific literature relevant for ligand development and synthesis.
- Assume leadership responsibilities managing on-site laboratory operations.
- Maintain laboratory notebooks, draft research reports, and present project status updates.
- Collaborate and support CMC and Preclinical operations.
- Work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Help manage internal scientific databases.
- Maintain a safe working environment through full compliance with health and safety protocols.
**Requirements**:
- PhD in synthetic, medicinal, or organic chemistry or equivalent fields with one to three years of industry or postdoctoral experience.
- Experience with small-molecule synthesis and solid/solution phase peptide synthesis.
- Demonstrated track record of managing scientific projects and leading interdisciplinary teams.
- Ability to perform chemical reactions on a mg to g scale.
- Experience with normal and reverse phase preparatory chromatography.
- Hands-on experience using analytical methods to validate synthesis (HPLC, LC/MS, NMR, etc.)
- Strong understanding of protein-ligand interactions, ADME, physiochemical properties, and principles of medicinal chemistry.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Chemdraw, and MestreNova,
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate chemistry strategies and reports.
- Experience with ICP-MS is beneficial, but not required.
- This role may require working in collaboration with a hospital setting occasionally, and it is mandatory for all employees to complete health screens before onboarding. In the event the screen results show non-immunity, vaccines may need to be administered.
