Squamish Nation consists of 23 villages and is comprised of descendants of the Coast Salish Aboriginal people who live in the present-day Greater Vancouver area, Gibson’s Landing, and Squamish River watershed. The Squamish Nation has occupied and governed the territory since beyond recorded history. The Squamish Nation's culture is rich and resilient. We continue to practice our customs and traditions, which are strongly interconnected with our traditional territory. As an organization, we provide support to the greater Squamish Nation Community through service. With 14 departments with individual areas of expertise, we ensure Community Members have access to necessary programs and services.

**About The Opportunity**:
Working as an integral part of the Nexwsyétsem Communications and Engagement Department, reporting to the Executive Director Corporate Services, The Director Communications & Engagement is the primary communicator for Squamish Nation in all matters of strategic communications and engagement activity and is responsible for managing communications and engagement planning and execution. This position will be responsible to build the department and develop the team so as to meet the growing needs of Squamish Nation government. This role provides communication and engagement expertise and guidance, project planning, and project management to enable the overall success of the Nation. The Director leads in the planning, development, implementation and coordination of proactive communication and engagement programs and strategies from both a corporate and program perspective. Provides leadership and direction to a team of communications and engagement staff and outside contractors and suppliers to ensure program continuity and flexibility to meet emerging needs, including hiring, termination, evaluation, discipline, support, coaching, and professional development. Works closely with the Squamish Nation Leadership Team to deliver, implement, and support an integrated and complementary approach to all communication and engagement efforts within the Squamish Nation government. This position is not primarily for the Chair or Council Spokesman’s communication or engagement activities, however, works collaboratively with CCO staff on overlapping areas such as media relations or community communication. The ability to work independently on multiple projects and issues simultaneously will be important. The Incumbent must possess exceptional time management and problem-solving skills and have experience and desire to work with and be a collaborative team-builder, demonstrating and maintaining effective working relationships within the organization and with the Nation’s leadership team is essential.

- Team-oriented with a positive, approachable attitude.

***Salary**: $ 131,305 - $ 154,141 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits program
