**Health and Safety Officer & Trainer**
At Tradition Construction Inc. we are a leading general contractor with a strong commitment to delivering high-quality construction projects in London and surrounding area. We are seeking a Health and Safety Officer & Trainer to join our team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to ensure the safety and well-being of our workforce, maintain regulatory compliance, and foster a culture of safety on all our job sites.
**Position Overview**:
As the Health and Safety Officer & Trainer, you will be responsible for implementing, overseeing, and maintaining health and safety programs across various construction sites. You will also take an active role in training and educating employees to ensure that safety protocols and best practices are followed. Your work will directly impact the safety, productivity, and success of our projects.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Conduct regular site inspections and safety audits to ensure compliance with OHSA (Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act) and other relevant regulations.
- Identify hazards and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks on construction sites.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs, including new employee orientations, ongoing safety education, and specialized training (e.g., equipment operation, fall protection, PPE use).
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed reports and implementing preventive measures.
- Assist in the creation and enforcement of site-specific health and safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain and update safety records, including training certifications, inspections, and incident reports.
- Monitor and ensure the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety gear on-site.
- Collaborate with project managers, supervisors, and field staff to ensure a safe working environment.
- Stay up-to-date with changes in health and safety legislation and industry best practices.
- Promote a culture of safety through employee engagement, safety meetings, and communication.
**Qualifications**:
- College diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or related field (preferred).
- Certification in Construction Safety (e.g., Gold seal certification, Construction Safety Officer (NCSO), Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC), or equivalent).
- Experience with ISO 45001:2018 Health and Safety Management system
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a health and safety role within the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of Ontario’s health and safety legislation, including OHSA, MOL guidelines, and industry best practices.
- Proven experience in delivering training programs and workshops for diverse teams.
- Ability to assess risks and implement safety solutions effectively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with all levels of staff and management.
- Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- First Aid, CPR, and WHMIS certifications (or willing to obtain).
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel to various job sites.
