Water Services is looking for a motivated, high performing employee to contribute to the overall leadership and direction of the operations of the trusted, essential and highly regulated drinking water, wastewater and stormwater services. Water Services operates and maintains five treatment plants, 43 lift stations, 41 pump stations and 14,500 kms of pipe, 61,000 valves and 340,000 water meters, 26,000 storm drains and over 340 storm ponds and wetlands. With a talented team of more than 1,000 professionals, technicians, certified operators and skilled labourers, Water Services staff are caring, competent and committed, responding to more than 44,000 service requests each year from Calgarians and regional customers.
- As the Manager, Water Treatment reporting to the Deputy Director, Water Services, you will provide strategic leadership, drive change and provide operational oversight for the Water Treatment Division. You will be responsible for regulatory compliance, financial management, and ensure the delivery of clean safe drinking water to Calgarians and regional customers. As a key member of the Water Services Management Team, you will support the overall business unit priorities while fostering a high-performing, collaborative, customer-focused organization. Primary duties include:
- Provide effective and efficient water treatment operations and maintenance to support the delivery of clean safe drinking water to Calgarians and regional customers.
- Collaborate across departments on strategies for supporting the planning, construction and commissioning of new water treatment and transmission infrastructure.
- Advance water treatment and supply service objectives by working with a cross-department service team to develop and execute strategies for this line of service.
- Collaborate with the Water Services Management Team in strengthening and supporting a leadership culture with a shared responsibility for setting and meeting goals and strategies in the One Calgary Plan.
- Coach, develop and supervise a skilled group of professionals while creating line of sight for employees to divisional priorities and fostering a culture of operational excellence. Responsible for all the resources of the division, including hiring, staff development and performance management.
- Responsible for the overall safety of Water Treatment employees, advancing safety culture and practices in the division and sponsorship of the Water Treatment Health and Safety Committee.
**Qualifications**
- A degree in Engineering and at least 10 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) **complete with practicing status** OR licensure **and practicing status** by the first day of work **Click here for more details**.
- Over 10 years of progressive experience in the water industry, including at least 7 years in supervisory or management roles within a large public sector organization.
- Strong background in managing diverse, unionized teams and navigating complex regulatory environments and public sector policies.
- Effective oral and written communication skills and political acumen.
- Aligning with City corporate values, you will have demonstrated success in building and leading strong teams, managing others in a changing/uncertain environment, influencing others, achieving outcomes, and establishing and maintaining strong and positive working relationships with colleagues, and/or elected officials.
