**The Opportunity**:
The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting for a **Deputy City Clerk** to fill a permanent full-time position. This position is responsible to assist the City Clerk in all activities of the Legislative Services area. This position ensures operational aspects of Legislative Services are fulfilled during the absence of the City Clerk. The Deputy City Clerk is responsible to support open and transparent local government through the administration of sound systems and practices, and helps support the governance activities of Council, Council Committees, and quasi-judicial tribunals. This position ensures that decision-makers have required information to make decision and records those decision so the organization can process the decisions. This position performs the role of Deputy Enumerator and Deputy Returning Officer.
- Degree in related field such as Business or Public Administration, Law or related discipline
- Post-secondary studies in Municipal Government Administration preferred
- Additional education such as National Advanced Certificate in Local Authority Administration, Local Government Certificate, Assessment Review Board Clerk Certification or Subdivision and Development Appeal board Certification would be an asset
- 5 years or more of progressively responsible experience in a Legislative environment
- Experience clerking Council meetings considered an asset
- Experience working in a public-sector environment with unionized and non-unionized employees considered an asset
- Ability to research, interpret and provide advice and guidance on a variety of legislative and administrative matters relating to areas of responsibility
- Thorough Knowledge of various provincial acts including: Municipal Government Act, Local Authorities Election Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act
- Strong Political Acumen
- Thorough knowledge of the organization and functions of municipal government, including knowledge of City bylaws and policies
- Demonstrate a high degree of accuracy when performing duties
- Demonstrate interpersonal skills to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders as senior levels of the organization
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrate high degree of communication skills: verbal written and listening
- Ability to operate within a politically sensitive environment and deal with sensitive and confidential issues
- Knowledge of parliamentary procedure
- Thorough understanding in and use of technology in a municipal environment

**Remuneration**:
$47.43 to $59.29 ($92,842 to $116,053 per annum).
**Hours of Work**:
75 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday, will be required to work evenings and weekends as required.
