Role Summary
The Master Grower is responsible for management and oversight of all aspects of the facility and is responsible for all activities conducted under the license. The Master Grower provides direct support to the Director of Operations in the day-to-day tasks and ensuring compliance to Health Canada’s Cannabis Regulations while following Health and Safety protocols. This role is also a Security Cleared role within the Business.
Roles Responsibilities
- Ensure the overall and ongoing compliance to the Cannabis Act and its Regulations.
- Responsible for holding and maintaining security clearance granted by Health Canada.
- Adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures for the Good Production Practices (GPP) operations at all times.
- Responsible for the overall plant health and maximum yields, with lowest costs while maintaining high quality standards
- Oversee and manage all aspects of growing including: selection and development of genetic strains and seeds, cloning, potting and transplanting, designing and maintaining nutrient regiments, feeding plants, defoliation, topping, flushing, foliar and preventative sprays, trimming, waste disposal, harvesting, and inventory management.
- Ensure the accurate data collection for all processes including, raw materials, propagation, growing, plant and inventory tracking, environmental, sanitation, equipment, supplies, destruction, corrective and preventative measures and internal quality checks.
- Oversee production scheduling to precisely project cultivation needs on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis and meet the company timelines and goals. Provide a weekly production status summary.
- Responsible for all Operational staff scheduling. Establish methods to meet work schedules and co-ordinate work activities, with production and quality assurance, setting clear expectations of the work to be done with the growers to ensure product quality.
- Work closely with Operations Director and HR in correlation to production calendar to ensure labour required is present to conduct the daily operations
- Collaborate with the Director of Operations, Responsible Person and Quality Assurance (QA), on any process improvement changes to Standard Operating Procedures and implementation of new forms to capture quality data.
- Monitor daily activities to determine opportunities for improvement in productivity, efficiency, and quality.
- Escalate all issues with a crop and/or the production process to the Director of Operations and the Quallity Assurance department
- Lead process deviation investigations and recommend, perform and coordinate corrective actions.
- Support all Health Canada audits and inspections
- Ensure equipment preventative maintenance operations, schedules and commissioning (HVAC & Fertigation System)
- Develop and/or maintain facility protocol and nutrient regiment
- Develop and/or maintain protocols for lighting, temperature, and humidity manipulation
- Develop and/or maintain protocols to diagnose health and coordinate timely and effective pest preventative control Techniques for plant diseases, insects, and other deficiencies (IPM)
- Oversight of the entire production process, including, but not limited to, all things from propagation to harvested and dried product.
- Work closely with HR and Operations Director in correlation to production calendar to ensure labour is present to conduct the daily operations
- Support developing cultivation production events and assigning daily tasks to complete
- Support training of staff to ensure all tasks are being completed compliantly and as per the production schedule
- Always adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures for the Good Production Practices (GPP) operations
- Ensure all operations staff are trained on SOP’s and GPP and coordinate ongoing training with Quality Assurance and HR Departments to ensure compliance or re-training where needed.
- Ensure that staff members are always following the Standard Operating Procedures
- Ensure that staff members are following all mechanical maintenance requirements for equipment as per SOPs.
- Work with appropriate team members to continuously develop and improve maintenance safety standards and Procedures
- Work with and support the Sanitation Manager/Team to ensure all sanitation tasks are completed and documented as require per Health Canada requirements
- Manage and account for all operations inventory, supplies and or materials in the facility
- Inform Quality Assurance of any complaints, recalls or adverse events that come to their knowledge, assist with inspections and ensure records are available for expedient review
- Work closely with Quality Assurance to ensure documentation is being completed as per SOPs and Health Canada guidelines and GPP issues
- Lead multi-disciplinary teams of staff, including maintenance, production and custodial workers
- Audit and report weekly to Director of Operations on data collection in correlation
