Youth Counsellor (Casual)

Hourly Rate of Pay - $37.91

The Board is currently seeking an energetic, compassionate, and student-focused Casual Youth Counsellor.

The successful applicant to this position will provide services to students in Elementary schools, Secondary schools or alternative education programs.The successful applicant will work cooperatively with a team of school and system-based professionals in an educational environment dedicated to providing the highest standards of service.

The functions of this position could include (but are not limited to):
Working collaboratively with Administrators, Social Workers, Attendance Counsellors, School Staff, Students, Families, and select community agencies.

Directly supporting classrooms by providing evidence-based social-emotional learning programs

Facilitating small group opportunities to work on targeted skill-building with students

Supporting students in goal-setting based on the CASEL wheel

Maintaining appropriate records

Tracking and maintaining data associated with working with students

Providing attendance re-engagement support for students and families

Carrying out other professional duties as assigned.

Skills, Qualifications and Education Requirements

Must hold a college diploma in the Community Services field (Child and Youth Care is preferred) or education deemed equivalent by the DSBN

Membership with the Ontario Association of Child and Youth Care (OACYC) is considered an asset

A valid Ontario Driver’s License with the ability to travel to schools within the DSBN

Demonstrates the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, possesses strong organizational and time management skills

Is an effective communicator (both written and verbal)

Demonstrated experience successfully supporting children and youth who have social and /or emotional difficulties
