**Position Title**: Counsellor
**Status**: Full Time Academic
**Hours**: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Please note that schedule may vary/change based on operational needs and academic cycles
**Faculty/Department**: Student Wellness and Equitable Learning (SWEL)/Student Success and Engagement (SSE)
**Campus/Location**:Primary location will be the**North Campus - with occasional travel to the Lake campus for operational coverage and meetings.
**Salary**:Academic starting salaries are determined based on qualifications and years of related experience as detailed in the collective agreement for academic employees.

**About the Student Wellness and Equitable Learning Dept at Humber**:
**About the Counsellor Role**:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Mental Health and Counselling Services, the Counsellor provides one-to-one and group-based mental health support to students of Humber Polytechnic. The counsellor provides support through a one-at-a-time (single sessions) approach and framework; providing care to students with complex presentations and needs - including the assessment and treatment of cognitive, emotional, and/or behavioral symptoms through psychotherapeutic means; conducting risk management and suicide assessments, providing crisis interventions, and case management including campus and community referrals.

Counsellors serve students within a multi-campus institution through in-person and virtual supports to ensure equitable access to service. The counsellor will also contribute to the development and provision of evidence-informed psychoeducational groups, workshops, faculty consultations, and further skill development and training opportunities. Counsellors will provide counselling services to all student populations within anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and decolonizing frameworks.

**Education**
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Education or a related discipline from an accredited program,
- Registration with a recognized regulatory college/body in good standing; under the Regulated Health Professions Act, able to perform the Controlled Act of Psychotherapy

**Experience/Skills**
- Knowledge of Ontario Mental Health Act, the Psychotherapy Act, the Health Care Consent Act, and Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), as well as College professional and ethical standard requirements
- Successful completion of supervised counselling by a recognized counselling professional
- Minimum of three (3) years of counselling / mental health services within a postsecondary institution, community organization or health care setting, with demonstrated experience coordinating care across sectors, agencies, and interdisciplinary professionals
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience providing individual and group counselling; experience in single session counselling is considered an asset
- Proven clinical experience and the ability of offer single session therapeutic interventions; training in evidence-based, brief therapeutic interventions such as Solution Focused Brief Therapy or one-at-a-time (single session) therapy
- Strong generalist skills with specialization and/or expertise in interpersonal psychotherapy, SFBT, DBT, ACT, CBT and/or other evidence-based practices
