School Janitor

**Position Overview**

The Janitor/Maintenance Worker is responsible for ensuring that the school building and grounds are safe, clean, and well-maintained. This position involves performing daily cleaning duties, general maintenance, and minor repairs, as well as responding to facility needs as they arise.

The hours are **Monday-Friday, 5:00 pm
- 12:00 am ( and the odd weekend or day shift when required). Hours are flexible based on the amount of cleaning needed.**

**Key Responsibilities**

**Custodial Duties**:

- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust classrooms, offices, hallways, and common areas.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, replenish supplies, and ensure they remain in good condition.
- Empty garbage and recycling bins, ensuring proper disposal.
- Wash windows, walls, and other surfaces as needed.
- Set up and take down rooms for school events, meetings, or assemblies.

**Maintenance Duties**:

- Perform routine inspections and basic repairs on school facilities, furniture, and equipment.
- Assist with minor plumbing, electrical, and carpentry tasks.
- Maintain school grounds by shoveling snow, salting walkways ( as needed)
- Report major repair needs or safety concerns to administration.
- Monitor and restock cleaning and maintenance supplies.
- Monitoring gym rentals, ensuring groups leave on time, lock the doors, turn off the lights, etc.

**Health & Safety**:

- Ensure all areas meet safety and cleanliness standards.
- Follow proper procedures when using cleaning chemicals and maintenance equipment.
- Assist in emergency situations (e.g., leaks, power outages, weather-related issues).

**Qualifications**
- Previous custodial or maintenance experience (preferred).
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general repairs.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Physical ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects; able to stand, bend, and work for extended periods.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, or during special school events when required.

**Work Environment**
- School building, classrooms, gymnasium, outdoor grounds, and offices.
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals, tools, and machinery (with appropriate safety gear provided).

**Job Type**: Part-time

Pay: $20.00-$25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 25 - 35 per week
