Ontario Works Caseworkers operate within a highly ethical environment and are accountable for going the extra mile to promote life stability, wellbeing, and self-sufficiency for our clients. Caseworkers work collaboratively with others to help individuals find the supports they need to achieve life stabilization goals, including financial independence and employability. This involves developing and implementing individualized case management plans, coordinating services, making referrals, and advocating for clients.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients’ unique needs and circumstances, strengths, and barriers to determine eligibility for social assistance programs and services, incorporating Provincial legislation, Regulations, OW Program policies and procedures.
- Develop and implement personalized case management plans by coordinating and collaborating with internal and external services to ensure clients receive appropriate and timely supports for their needs, including housing, employment, education, mental and physical health, and other social determinants of life stability.
- Provide ongoing case management support, while monitoring and evaluating clients’ progress, adjusting plans as necessary.
- Advocate for clients with government agencies, area organizations, and service providers to obtain needed resources and services.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date case records, documenting client interactions, services provided, and outcomes achieved.
- Facilitate clients’ participation in workshops, support groups, and learning programs to enhance their life skills and self-sufficiency.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to stay informed of best practices in social assistance and case management.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of policies, procedures and strategic initiatives related to client life stability.
**Qualifications**:
- Graduate of post-secondary education in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, or a related field of study.
- Preferably over 2 years, and a minimum of 1 year, of experience performing case management duties in a human/community services environment. Knowledge of social assistance programs, resources, and eligibility requirements are essential. Equivalent combinations of education/experience may also be considered.
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to build rapport, motivate and work effectively with diverse clients and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders. Excellent communication and writing abilities, including case note techniques.
- Demonstrated emotional intelligence to empathetically respond to emotionally charged individuals or crisis situations.
- Proven conflict resolution abilities, problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to employ sound judgment and decision-making.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to concurrently manage multiple caseloads, competing tasks, and priorities. Proven success working in a fast-paced environment, within time constraints and deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively, as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proven attention to detail and ability to follow legislation, directives, policies, well-defined steps and meet important timelines.
- Strong computer skills and ease working in an automated environment, and ability to adapt successfully to technology changes.
- Bilingualism (fluency and proficiency in verbal and written French and English communication) is an asset.
