**Position Overview**: The Weekend Overnight Worker (50%) is responsible for offering assistance, crisis intervention, and support to youth staying at the house overnight. The Weekend Overnight Worker must maintain wakefulness for the entire shift.

**Program Overview**: Phoenix House is a ten-bed long-term residential facility for youth aged 16-24. It offers safe, supportive housing for youth while learning skills for independent living. Youth participate in programming such as education, employment, or volunteer work, while preparing to transition to their next housing goal.

The Weekend Overnight Worker will work in a shared office space located in a three-storey residential House in downtown Halifax. Access to the House and its interior is via stairs at street level. The facility features gender-neutral washrooms and a shared kitchen area. There are multiple common areas that can be accessed by both youth and staff. There is also access to an outdoor space at the back of the house that can be used outdoor activities. There is also a staff fridge at this location as well that is accessible by all agency staff.

**Location**: Hunter Street, Halifax

**Compensation**:**$24.62/hour plus 4% vacation pay, Employee and Family Assistance Program, in-house trainings.

**Hours of Work**: Fridays from 7:40pm to 7:40am and Saturdays from 11:30pm to 7:40am.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Ensure the program is congruent with Phoenix’s vision and values.
- Work in accordance with Phoenix’s policies, procedures, and framework of practice.
- Supervise and monitor Phoenix House’s weekend and overnight activities and ensure that policies, security, and safety are maintained.
- Work with youth to support the implementation of effective case plans that address the challenges of youth who experience homelessness.
- Provide support and crisis intervention for youth.
- Assist with engaging youth in life skill development and goal planning opportunities that support independent living.
- Provide a supportive environment that promotes youth empowerment.
- Complete nightly or weekly medication counts as required.
- Work as a team with other weekend staff and provide support and guidance to relief staff as needed.
- Complete and maintain all logs, files and records as required and ensure confidentiality is protected.
- Contribute to building maintenance to ensure a therapeutic milieu.
- Support program development, including attendance at biweekly team meetings, and ensure that a quality effective and client directed program is delivered.
- Train new staff, field placement students and volunteers as required.
- Commit to ongoing professional development and personal reflection towards an anti-oppressive approach to practice.
- Liaise with other agencies on behalf of youth and programs and participate in community committees, projects, or activities as appropriate.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS**
- Solid understanding of youth development and housing insecurity issues.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to support youth effectively.
- Knowledge of mental health issues, substance abuse and crisis intervention.
- Comfort and ability to work independently.
- Physical ability to lift light loads, walk up and down stairs, and maintain a fairly active pace.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook and using the Internet for work-related research and communication.
- Knowledge of community resources and the social service delivery system is an asset.

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
- Bachelor of Social Work; or other relevant undergraduate degree (or working towards one).
- Registration or Candidacy for registration, certification, or membership of a related professional body if applicable.
