Job Summary:
Reporting to the Director, People & Culture, the Team Member Relations Specialist will demonstrate professionalism and objectivity in all circumstances and be responsible for conducting impartial investigations into concerns raised by our team members and others about violations of Porter’s Respect and Dignity in the Workplace Policy and Program, Code of Business Conduct and other relevant Company policies. This key role will work in partnership with the People and Culture team to provide proactive, objective, and specialized advice to enable effective human resources governance and risk mitigation that contributes to maintaining a positive work environment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

- Prepare and execute complex, sensitive and high risk investigations into workplace matters involving alleged violations of Porter’s Respect and Dignity in the Workplace Policy and Program, Code of Business Conduct, and other relevant Company policies
- Work both autonomously and collaboratively with People and Culture and other key stakeholders to coordinate and conduct interviews with impacted individuals, summarize and organize documentation and information, provide factual summaries to stakeholders, make objective and analytical sound findings and prepare investigation reports
- Ability to conduct multiple investigations concurrently while working within tight timelines
- Examine the internal environment to highlight issues and promote proactive approaches to address workplace issues systemically, identifying trends and common themes that will inform and influence decision making and policy
- Take initiative and provide proactive and specialized advice to People and Culture as it relates to team member relations in order to minimize risk relative to employment matters
- Support People and Culture with information and responses to open legal files for effective and timely resolution, consulting with internal and external counsel as required
- Assist in the development and implementation of People and Culture policies and procedures related to team member relations
- Stay abreast of emerging employment legislation and industry best practices to ensure investigations align with legal requirements and Company policies
- Actively participates in Porter’s Safety Management System (SMS) including reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations; understand, comply and promote the Company Safety Policy

Qualifications:

- A post-secondary graduate with a degree or certification in Human Resources, or other related discipline;
- Employment law designation or background and/or Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation an asset;
- Solid understanding of employment laws;
- Minimum 3 years’ of proven experience in conducting workplace investigations;
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with outstanding attention to detail and a high level of accuracy;
- Proficient in Google and Microsoft Office Suite;
- Excellent discretion and confidentiality, with the ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy;
- Ability to think critically and analytically, with neutrality to help inform decision making;
- Highly organized with strong time management skills, with a proven ability to manage competing and shifting priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
- Excellent problem solving, decision-making and judgement skills;
- Ability to work well independently, as well as collaboratively in a team environment;
- Flexible and available to travel within Canada and the United States, as required.
