The incumbent is responsible for supervising all aspects of the food services at Butternut Lane; providing assistance with meal preparation, food safety and sanitation for two Group Homes (Farintosh House & Henderson House); providing an exceptional and nutritious dining experience to the residents; and ensuring the safe and efficient preparation and delivery of food within legislative and fiscal constraints.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Plan, organize and supervise the activities of the food services department to ensure high quality food service.
- Manage the day-to-day human resources of the department which include hiring, evaluating, discipling, training, and coaching to ensure a high level of productivity and the best use of staff capabilities;
- Conduct monthly team meetings.
- Ensure adequate staffing of the department by maintaining schedules and monitoring staff absenteeism.
- Establish and oversee daily scheduled cleaning duties.
- Monitor and track food cash sales purchased by staff.
- Survey and monitor resident satisfaction and food preferences; implement action plan to correct deficiencies.
- Keep all resident nutritional records up to date including; Diet List, Beverage List, Diet Census, Breakfast Meal Intake and monthly weight records. Communicate nutritional changes to Nurse Manager.
- Assign preparation of all foods indicated on the cycle menu for residents, using standardized recipes and portion sizes.
- Assist in menu planning and recipe development and standardizes new recipes as required following HACCP guidelines.
- Ensure food is prepared in accordance with Public Health requirements and health guidelines, including regular tasting for quality assurance (temperature, taste, etc.)
- Prepare and maintain all records such as invoices, reports, statistics, etc, in accordance with policies, procedures and legislative requirements.
- Assist with the development and monitoring of the Food Services Department budget.
- Order, receive and monitor inventory of food and kitchen supplies from authorized vendors to minimize product waste and ensure budgetary and cost controls are met.
- Order and receive food from authorized vendors for two Group Homes (Henderson and Farintosh), based on information provided from the Group Homes; coordinate the delivery of the food to the sites Purchase food and kitchen supplies, as needed, from grocery stores for all Group Homes
- Ensure proper storage conditions and rotation of food supplies and leftovers and to monitor the dating and labelling of foods at the main site. Support this process and educate to the other 2 group homes.
- Work with managers to develop and assist in the implementation of special events and programs as required (eg. Christmas Open House (Dinner), Board Dinners, Summer BBQ, etc.)
- Perform all duties in a safe manner consistent with Participation House’s Mission Statement and The Statement of Resident Rights
- Report incidents/accidents as per the Agency’s policies and procedures
- Report repair and maintenance issues to the (Building Services Manager)
**Skills and Abilities**:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a food services supervisory position; unionized health care setting is preferred.
- Minimum Certification of completion of a recognized Food Services course or equivalent
- Must have Culinary Management Diploma (2 year) from a program that meets the standard established by the Ministry of Training, College or University.
- Membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM) is (REQUIRED or PREFERRED)
- Completed the Safe Food Handler course (Advanced.fst) offered by the Public Health Department
- Minimum completion of First Aid and CPR Level A with Red Cross Canada or St. John Ambulance
- Knowledge of therapeutic diets, texture modifications and nutritional supplements
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Good physical health and emotional well-being.
- Willingness to take on new challenges as position warrants
- Strong supervisory skills and experience supervising a team within a unionized setting
- Ability to analyze challenging situations, provide assistance with problem solving and development of action plans
- Demonstrated decision-making qualities; tact and courtesy when dealing with others.
- Must be organized, reliable, flexible, able to multitask, and delegate efficiently with high ethical standards
- Must have reliable vehicle to pick up minor supplies, as needed
- Must have ability to work outside regular business hours, as required for special events
**Salary**: $46,000.00 per year
