In this unique role, you’ll work directly with law students through brief individual counselling, group sessions, and tailored wellness programming, while also contributing to faculty-wide initiatives such as orientation and curriculum support. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about working with graduate and professional students, and who brings a trauma-informed, equity-oriented lens to their work. **The salary range for this position is**: - **Recruitment range: $91,290- $100,665** starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement. - **Performance range: $118,764**salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases. - **Black people** If you have questions about this opportunity, please contact: - Job Summary Counselling Services, as part of Student Wellness, is committed to fostering student success, engagement, and well-being through direct clinical services, training and mentorship, consultative services, crisis and emergency response, and programming development, implementation and evaluation. The SWEL fosters service and program innovation and leads a number of strategic relationships with both internal university and external community stakeholders in order to deliver departmental, divisional, and institutional planning initiatives and goals. The counsellor embedded in Faculty of Law as one aspect of the Amicus program’s personal support component will provide individual and group counselling to UVic Law students with concerns in the personal domain (e.g., mental health; relationship), career domain (e.g., balance between demanding Law curriculum and personal well-being), and learning domain (e.g., academic concession considerations; trauma-informed law curriculum delivery and law professional practice). The counsellor works with individual student clients using a brief intervention model, which attends to developmental challenges and is delivered in a culturally responsive way in order to meet the needs of a diverse post-secondary student population. In addition to direct clinical services to students, the counsellor will provide consultative and outreach services to staff and faculty within the Faculty of Law and, if needed, the larger UVic campus community. As a part of Amicus program, the counsellor will participate in Faculty wide initiatives (e.g., Orientation), deliver wellness sessions in classroom, and provide input to wellness programming for the Faculty. Depending on experience, the counsellor may contribute to clinical supervision of graduate students in our Advanced Counselling/ Psychotherapy Practicum program who are deemed appropriate to specialize in embedded counselling service delivery to Faculty of Law. It is very important that the counsellor works collaboratively with administrative and clinical teams of Counselling Services, and also with administrative and other support staff of the Amicus program of the Faculty of Law. The counsellor strives to develop effective working relationships with staff and faculty with the Faculty of Law and other university members. The counsellor will report to the Dean or Dean’s delegate at the Faculty of Law and Director of Counselling Services and will receive clinical supervision from Counselling Services. Note that the Associate Dean of Faculty of Law oversees the operation of the Amicus program. - Job Requirements Has earned from a recognizable institution a graduate degree in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related discipline that is appropriate to postsecondary counselling centres. - After receiving the aforementioned graduate degree, has worked professionally for approximately three years providing short-term based counselling to young adults with mental health challenges. - Has affiliated with a professional association and/or has registered in good standing with a professional regulatory body. - Exceptional skills in effective presentation and group facilitation; demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively as part of a team to achieve goals and objectives. - Has earned degree/credential in Law or a related discipline, or demonstrated familiarity with legal culture;
