Associate Director, Security Risk Oversight

**Job Summary**
Reporting to the Director, Security Risk Oversight, the Associate Director is responsible for supporting oversight and advisory activities for security risk management enterprise wide. This involves supporting the 2nd Line of Defense governance model, by providing independent challenge to ensure that the Security Risk profile is fairly presented in ongoing reporting including escalating to senior management as required.
**What is the opportunity?**
Reporting to the Director, Security Risk Oversight, the Associate Director is responsible for supporting oversight and advisory activities for security risk management enterprise wide. This involves supporting the 2nd Line of Defense governance model, by providing independent challenge to ensure that the Security Risk profile is fairly presented in ongoing reporting including escalating to senior management as required.
This also includes supporting the oversight and challenge of security controls, providing an independent opinion on RBC’s security risk posture, analyzing Key Risk Indicators to measure and monitor Security Risk and contribute to the maintenance of enterprise polices and standards governing global Security Risk.
This role also supports the provision of expertise, advice and counsel to executives and senior management to enhance their ability to anticipate and manage security risk effectively.
**What will you do?**
- Actively challenge key business stakeholders to ensure that the security risk profile is balanced, comprehensive and a transparent reflection for the enterprise compared to risk appetite.
- Contributes to the review of security risk assessments executed by the business including security risk assessment, deep dive assessments, scenario analysis and new product or change initiative assessments.
- Leverage data driven insights to analyse key risk indictors and/or to provide opinions and challenge on same.
- Support the reporting of the Security risk profile, analysis and risk exposure to Executives and Senior Management on a regular basis.
- Authority to request the business to conduct certain activities related to the assessment of security risks including new or revised assessments or reviews of risk appetite.
- Review risk process outputs, self-identified risk issues and acceptances to ensure operations are within Risk Appetite.
- Support the review and maintenance of RBC’s Security policies and standards and identify opportunities for, and initiate, enhancements where appropriate.
- Review, document and provide constructive challenge on identified security risks pertaining to RBC projects and change initiatives.
- Demonstrate advanced understanding in evaluating and challenging RBC security controls, risk assessment findings, methodologies and other outcomes.
- Assist in identifying and interpreting the evolving regulatory obligations impacting the business and maintaining the Security Risk regulatory universe and library.
- Support the completion of regulatory risk assessments and trigger assessments and provide input an opinion on existing controls to meet supervisory expectations.
**What do you need to succeed?**
**Must-have**
- Undergraduate degree in security, business or a related discipline.
- 5+ year’s experience in physical security, risk management or comparable experience.
- Strong metrics and performance management background including data management and analysis.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Highly developed ability for conceptual thinking.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Well-developed impact and influence skills.
- Proven track record of building strong relationships across business functions in a matrixed organisation.
**Nice to have**:
- 7+ years experience in financial services sector with a deep understanding of Security Risk Management in a global Financial Institution.
- Experience in Risk Management, ORM, Internal Audit or Compliance.
- Strategic mindset, with excellent knowledge and understanding of RBC business lines and organisation.
