The Shop Manager is responsible for the effective supervision of the service department staff to ensure that quality standards and productivity requirements are met. Responsibilities will include the training of staff members in service methods, safety, policies and procedures, as well as the identification and correction of potential work problems and health and safety issues. Through the effective management of targets, goals and service efficiencies, the Shop Manager will ensure the ongoing success of the shop floor. He or she will act in the capacity of Service Technician as required.

**Management**
- Supervise the activities of service department shop workers
- Develop a solid 7-day work schedule for all shop staff with staggered shifts & weekend rotation.
- Instruct staff on service best practices
- Provide coaching and mentoring to all shop staff
- Establish methods to meet work schedules and coordinate work activities with the Sales Team
- Resolve work problems and recommend measures to improve productivity and product quality
- Provide information for production plans to ensure that production objectives are met and are maximized
- Strives for harmony and teamwork within the department and with all other departments.
- Lead morning and afternoon huddles with shop staff to improve communication and review days requirements.
- Maintains professional appearance.
- Train staff in job duties, safety procedures and company policy
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of service technology and techniques
- Recruit new staff as required
- Act as a Service Technician as necessary

**Dispatch & Shop Loading**
- Increase fixed Ops efficiency with shop loading & dispatching by maximizing billable hours, creating efficiencies that foster customer retention & net profit, analyze how current process could be impacting efficiencies.
- Making ethical decisions to keep inline with company integrity and honesty to ensure our customers have trust in us.
- Gaining more efficiency that creates more income for technicians, gives dealership a recruiting edge and increases parts income and net profit.
- Identify non-productive time & idle technician time to understand if our processes are working properly. Are our technology tools being utilized effectively (PBS)?
- Ensure and enforce techs to use electronic parts requests
- Ensures that all repairs are assigned to technicians in an equal and fair manner.
- Dispatch work to mechanics based on skill and ability.
- Checks progress of each repair order throughout the day.
- Ensures repairs are charged out correctly.

**Shop & Equipment Management**
- Monitors shop condition, including cleanliness, safety and the condition of shop equipment. Reports problems to the service manager or dealer.
- Ensures the proper care, storage and inventory of special tools.
- Keeps abreast of new equipment and tools available and recommends purchases.

**Quality Control**
- Maintains high-quality service repairs and minimizes comebacks. Conducts periodic spot checks of completed jobs for thoroughness and quality.
- Road tests vehicles to quality-check work performed.
- Ensure quality of workmanship through verification of services.
- Ensure completion of shop maintenance and repair work
- Ensure compliance with company standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, safety, and complete and on-time service delivery
- Identify, investigate, correct and document potential safety problems
- Maintains safe work environment.

**Other Duties**
- Request materials and supplies through Technical Service Manager
- Plan and manage snow removal process
- Other duties as required

**Requirements**:

- Post secondary diploma/degree or equivalent experience
- Minimum 3 -5 years of experience in a related field
- Holds a valid technician license.
- Minimum of 3 years’ supervisory experience with demonstrated motivating, training, appraising and general supervisory skills
- Completion of college/vocational or technical training
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Proven mechanical abilities
- Ability to work independently in a busy environment
- Experience with routine maintenance operations
- Leadership ability and team building skills to effectively supervise staff required
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
- Able to build and maintain positive working relationships with all staff and business partners
- Able to find new methods and principles and ability to incorporate them into existing practices as needed
- High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability
- Must have the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc.
- Strong prioritization skills
- Must be able to push, pull and move equipment and/or supplies in excess of 50 pounds
