The Sam Livingston Fish Hatchery is one of the four fish hatcheries that the province operates. The Sam Livingston Fish Hatchery operates both flow through and recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) and is one of the provinces 2 production and grow out hatcheries raising Brown, Brook, Tiger, Cutthroat and Rainbow Trout for stocking into lakes throughout Alberta. Trout stocking creates a positive impact to the Alberta economy. **Role**: The Fisheries Technician is responsible for performing technical activities required for the delivery of programs and initiatives that support a major fish culture facility, including incubation, rearing, transfer, and distribution of cultured fish into the waters across the province and the operation of mechanical water treatment systems. To be successful in this role, the position needs to establish and maintain positive working relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders including representatives from Alberta Infrastructure. The position also conducts public tours of the facility, participates in the development of public displays and educational materials and provides leadership and guidance to junior technical staff contractors, and seasonal staff. **Qualifications**: **Requirements**: - Technical diploma in Renewable Resource Management, Natural Sciences, or other related diploma. - Valid class 5 driver’s license, or equivalent. **Preference will be given to those with related fish culture experience.** **Equivalencies**: Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of: one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience. **Assets**: - Knowledge of fish life cycle stages; including fish and egg rearing techniques such as incubation, fish growth, grading, transportation; fish diseases and related treatments; fish physiology and nutrition. - Knowledge of mechanical systems/controls and facility schematics. - Knowledge of water treatment concepts and processes. - Knowledge of water chemistry and related test equipment. - Class 3 Drivers license with air brake endorsement. - Certification in defensive driving. - First aid with AED training. - Confined space entry. **APS Competencies**: Competencies are behaviours that are essential to reach our goals in serving Albertans.
