Process Control Network Specialist

**The Role**:
The Process Control Network (PCN) Specialist provides engineering support, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Shell Scotford’s Process Control (Operations Technology/OT) network systems. This includes short-term and long-term activities that deliver a Highly Secure, High Availability Process Control Network, in full compliance with Shell’s Risk Profile in the 5 Process Control Domain (PCD) activities of “Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond and Recover”. The PCN Specialist also works closely with Automation System Specialists, bringing their networking skills to the table, in the hands-on technical support and maintenance of digital systems, computer and electronic systems, and communications systems within the site.
The following are the primary accountabilities for the Process Control Network Specialist:
- Perform proactive technical monitoring of the Scotford Site Process Control Network, identifying threats to security and reliability, and actively responding to system issues.
- Provide technical support for the management of the secure network infrastructure including firewall configuration, rule review, network segmentation, maintenance, and upgrades.
- Manage and maintain Scotford’s virtual infrastructure (Hyper V, VMWare) including adding new host servers, building/maintaining VMs (Virtual Machines), and maintaining secure backups.
- Contribute to network designs for new projects, assuring Shell’s cyber security and PCD standards are followed. Support project execution with hardware installation and configuration.
- Carry out assurance activities supporting Shell’s Process Control Domain Integrity (PCD-I) work process and participate in external audit activities as a technical resource.
- Collaborate with system specialists, vendor contractors, and other departments to securely progress Scotford’s digitalization and transformation journey.
**Skills & Experience**
- What do we need from You? _
- You must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone, not just your current employer.
- You have completed a post-secondary degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or an equivalent Engineering Technology diploma.
- You have designed, implemented, and maintained a highly secure, high-reliability network, and have developed a solid foundation in IT/OT security fundamentals.
- You have demonstrated your knowledge of virtual system management by building and maintaining Hyper-V or VMWare virtual systems.
- You have demonstrated your skills as a Network Administrator in many of the following areas: Windows Servers, enterprise anti-virus, endpoint security, SIEM, logging configurations, IDS/IPS, authentication methods, TCP/IP, packet capture, and analysis, WSUS.
- You have shown yourself knowledgeable in networking fundamentals, including switching, routing, firewall management, IPSec/VPN tunnels, and encryption. If you have experience with Cisco and Palo Alto, even better
- Ideally (But not necessary) you have worked in a large industrial plant environment and are familiar with industrial work processes such as Management of Change (MOC)
- You are willing to provide some off-hours support during plant upsets, emergencies, and Turnarounds. These events are not typically a regular occurrence however they do require additional support when they happen.
