**ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY**
We are seeking a highly motivated, team-orientated individual to join our Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions team as a Regional Mental Health Navigator.
Reporting to the Provincial Mental Health Coordinator, the primary purpose of the Regional Mental Health Navigator is to provide mental health navigation support to Métis people across their respected Health Authority. This role will also act as a mental health information conduit between MNBC, Métis Chartered Communities, and the Fraser Health Authority.
***KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Support Métis individuals in the North to access mental health services, navigate the mental health system, and connect to available mental health resources.
- Engage with Métis Chartered Communities in the North regarding their specific mental health and wellness needs and priorities.
- Foster a practice of cooperative effort and collaborative problem solving around issues related to improving the mental health and wellness of Métis people.
- Support the Provincial Mental Health Coordinator in working with multiple regional stakeholders in the North to advocate for Métis in BC through various mental health-related committees, working groups, and advisory council meetings.
- Enhance relationships between Métis Chartered Communities and Northern Health Authority regarding regional mental health programs and services.
- Engage with Northern Health Authority to create a better understanding of the Métis experience in BC, with a particular focus on Métis people’s cultural safety as it relates to mental health and wellness.
- Directly communicate with MNBC Ministry of Health | Mental Health and Addictions staff on all pertinent issues.
- Carry out various administrative tasks, as required.
- Planning, and coordinating meetings and events, as required.
- Report on activities, meetings, and outcomes through various reporting mechanisms on a regular basis
**THE IDEAL CANDIDATE**
- Degree or diploma in Health, Education, Social Services, or related field
- Two (2) years of recent related experience in a mental health care setting or related field
- Combination of relevant experience, education, and training will be considered
- Knowledge and/or awareness of the historical and contemporary contributions made by Métis people in BC
- Experience working with an Aboriginal organization/program that includes interacting and developing relationships with Aboriginal people and Aboriginal communities as well as government agencies and ministries, an asset
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
- Ability to lead, problem solve, and utilize team-building skills
- Proven ability to utilize strong interpersonal skills to deal with others effectively
- Proven ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work with mínimal supervision
- Proven ability to utilize, adapt and embrace new technologies, including Microsoft 365 and other database/software required by the role
**OTHER COMMENTS**
- Other duties may be assigned as needed to help ensure the efficient operation of MNBC.
- There will be a need to attend meetings and events which may require work and travel outside of the normal business hours.
- Ability to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s license and access to reliable personal vehicle for work purposes.
- Hours are flexible in this position; however, you will need to be available for regular scheduled meetings with project partners on Tuesdays.
