**About the Opportunity**:
Reporting to the Health Services Manager, the Certified Tissue Bank Specialist (CTBS) develops, validates, implements and executes the procedures required for tissue donor screening, evaluation, procurement, preservation, distribution and recipient tracking of human allograft tissues for transplantation. This practice includes the surgical retrieval of ocular, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and skin tissue from cadaver donors.

The Specialist executes the processing, cryopreservation and distribution of donated allograft tissue for transplantation. The Tissue Bank Specialist assists in the processing, preservation and subsequent infusion of bone marrow/peripheral blood stem cells from living donors. The Specialist is also accountable and responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of all donor related activities. The Specialist also provides support to the organ retrieval team, locally and within the Atlantic Provinces.

**About You**:
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

- Bachelor of Science Degree
- Completion of the in-house Tissue Bank Specialist training program required- Two (2) years of related experience is preferred
- Tissue Bank Specialist certification or willingness to obtain within 24 months of employment (American Association of Tissue Bank Specialist Certification exam and Eye Bank Association of America Technician exam)
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, microbiology, sterilization procedures, aseptic techniques is essential
- Related experience in a laboratory or surgical environment is essential
- Demonstrated knowledge of the concepts and management of the assessment, retrieval, preservation and transplantation of Human tissue in the clinical setting
- In depth knowledge of contraindication to donations
- The ability to learn the techniques required and perform the surgical retrieval of human allograft tissues in accordance with departments standards of practice
- Ability to review and evaluate patient charts, laboratory data and medical histories
- Demonstrated leadership, planning, organizational, teamwork, operational, strategic planning and computer skills
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
- Proven critical and abstract thinking skills
- Demonstrates compliance with regulatory bodies and accreditations
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

A skills test will be included as part of the selection process.

**Compensation and Benefits**:
Tissue Bank Specialist - $35.83 - $46.37 hourly

Tissue Bank Specialist in Training - $33.20 - $41.44 hourly
