MANDATE

To support people to experience the beauty, complexity and importance of nature, and to grow their sense of connectedness to it. This is done by taking people out into nature, or bringing nature to people, in order to learn about it, notice it, and connect to it through the facilitation of 1:1 and group learning opportunities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Participant Support and Facilitation
- Responsible for group and 1-1 facilitation of Explore activities and experiences including workshops, training, outings, projects, art, and exploration to support participant learning related to nature and the environment.
- Leads a group of participants for extended periods of learning (e.g. 3-month semesters) including coordination/planning, research and development.
- Responsible for building and maintaining relationships with participants family/support networks through communication (e.g. meetings, progress updates) and encouraging active engagement throughout participants service journey.
- Leads participants who are interested in co-developing a project to build leadership and facilitation skills by coaching participants in designing and facilitating an experience that will be offered to fellow participants and community.
- Develops end of service reporting in collaboration with participants, incorporating their future goals, highlighting areas of growth and providing recommendations for future resources/services.
- Helps create the conditions for participants to connect to themselves, others, the land, the human project, culture and the sacred by providing them with meaningful experiences that incorporate design elements such as rituals, symbols, the arts and reflection.
- Inspires participants to approach nature with awe, wonder, and curiosity by providing interesting and engaging experiences and modeling these traits.
- Supports participants to organize and/or participate in environmental projects/initiatives by connecting them to volunteering opportunities in the community or with people who can assist them to design and organize their own initiatives
- Supports participants to plan and/or participate in nature-based experiences by co-designing experiences together or assessing and addressing access needs.
- Provides opportunities to learn about the land, including weather, nature’s rhythms, cycles and seasons, and the interconnectedness of life through experiences in nature, workshops and projects
- Provides opportunities to learn about Indigenous perspectives on land/creation and our relatedness to it through partnerships with indigenous persons or associations, educational materials, workshops, and in[1]person experiences.
- Engages community involvement alongside participants in various nature-based experiences and environmental projects through formal or informal partnerships and personal/ public invitations (e.g. social media)
- Develops networks, collaborations and partnerships with community members and organizations who share our aspirations.
- Leads a group of participants through customized activities and experiences to respond to participant learning and communication styles. Evaluates participant support and progress to identify challenges/opportunities and makes changes as necessary.
- Facilitates a service journey experience that is person-centered, with an emphasis on self-determination, identity, values, and individuality, using a service journey template and process established by posAbilities.
- Works alongside participants to engage in experiential learning, gaining a deeper understanding of the participant in order to inform the co-design of their service journey.
- Co-develops with participants a range of materials (e.g. journals, social media posts, art) with which to reflect upon and celebrate their progress, learnings and growth.
- Monitors, adapts and troubleshoots service journeys with practice support from the Explore Lead.
- Contributes to organizational learning by sharing ongoing approaches, methods and learning opportunities within the Association and for stakeholders through designing and offering workshops, events and developing content for existing communication channels (e.g. social media, website, newsletters, reports etc.). - Contributes to the development of activities and experiences for participants that focus on a wide range of nature and environmental topics and themes with input from the Explore Lead.
