**EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY**
**COMMUNITY SAFETY OFFICER (NON-UNION)**
Reporting to the Fire Chief, the Community Safety Officer will be responsible for providing training for paid-on-call firefighters and recruits; assisting with inspection administration and performing minor maintenance of facilities and equipment. This position will be responsible for the daily Fire Department administration, maintaining the training calendar and managing the firefighter's training records.
**KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Facilitate the training of paid-on-call firefighter personnel and recruits.
- Develop lesson plans and learning materials for firefighter training.
- Prepare and submit to the Fire Chief a schedule of training.
- Assist with administration of inspections and completing necessary paperwork.
- Maintain records management software and complete daily data entry, including the log of training records.
- Ensure compliance and perform all duties in accordance with Provincial legislation and related regulations (i.e. Fire Protection and Prevention Act, Municipal Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act) as well as municipal policies, procedures, guidelines and established operational work plans and directives provided by supervisor or designate.
- Supervise and coordinate crossing guard services and provide coverage if required.
- Ensure the security, integrity and completeness of all records.
- Attend and participate in scheduled meetings (departmental or other) and training sessions.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES**
- 5 years’ experience in the fire service.
- Certified in NFPA 1001 Level II and NFPA 1072 Hazardous Materials.
- Completion of NFPA 1041 Level I, NFPA 1021 Level I & 1031 Level I, or willingness to complete within 1 year of employment.
- Working knowledge of applicable legislation, practices and principles of fire protection and local government responsibilities would be considered an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- A balance of education, training and broad practical experience is essential.
- Computer literacy in MS Office utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and database software, MS Project, Outlook and the Internet.
- Class DZ Driver's license in good standing.
- Demonstrated level of professionalism and confidentiality with strong ethics
The annual salary range is $51,270 - $61,040 based on a 35-hour workweek.
