Digital Literacy Navigator/instructor

We are searching for a passionate professional who leads with a people-first lens and inspires others to do the
same. This multi-lingual project’s goal is to increase the digital literacy skills and confidence of seniors, leading to a
stronger sense of social inclusion. As an integral member of the Employment, Skills Training and Community
Outreach & Engagement team, the Digital Literacy Navigator/Instructor is a key, front-line role and the ideal
literacy project for seniors and will also instruct clients in digital literacy/skill building, in both group and individual
formats, across the Niagara region. The Digital Literacy Navigator/Instructor is part of a team of dedicated
professionals who provide client-centred service in ways that are aligned with the NFAMC’s core values. By joining

**_The languages deemed necessary for this project are Spanish and Arabic._**
**Position Summary**
- Under the direction of the Program Lead of Employment, Skills Training and Community Outreach & Engagement
Programs develops and aligns the project goals with timelines and milestones.
- Provides a welcoming and inclusive environment for clients; receives/ responds to inquiries about the project.
- Provides culturally responsive services to facilitate client’s confidence in and acquisition of digital literacy skills.
- Engages with community organizations and other stakeholders to create effective partnership opportunities,
including opportunities to deliver the project at various sites across the Niagara region.
- Works with internal resources to engage and involve volunteers in the delivery of the project.
- Oversees the service provision of the Digital Literacy Instructor(s), keeps the project on task and identifies any
risks with non-compliance.
- Conducts a thorough digital literacy assessment with clients - verifies eligibility, determines suitability, creation
of client files/database records, and works with the client to create a digital literacy learning plan.
- Structures conversations with clients to help determine needs and identifies barriers to social inclusion.
- Oversees the creation and delivery of curriculum and modifies teaching styles to match/meet participant’s needs
and learning styles.
- Maintains a system of monitoring learners’ progress and identifies and reports project’s trends, impact and
challenges.
- Develops and distributes promotional materials, including creating social media content.
- Leads the team in delivering promotion/registration sessions, and manages guest speakers, special events and
project activities. Conducts recruitment and registration processes.
- Any other duties as directed by the Program Lead.
**Education and Training**
- Post-secondary education completion, with a focus in Human Services: Social Work/Services, Gerontology,
Education, Social Justice and Equity, Psychology, Sociology, Information Technology or another program deemed
suitable.
Management, Gender Based Analysis (GBA+), Human Trafficking, Conflict Resolution, Prevention/Management
of Aggressive Behaviour, Mental Health First Aid, Suicide Intervention, Motivational Counselling Techniques,
Crisis Prevention & De-escalation, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention/Counselling, Anti-Racism & Anti-Oppression
Capacity Building, Building Inclusive Communities, LGBTQ2S+, Positive Spaces, Cultural Competency/Humility,
Immigrant and Refugee Mental Health, Trauma Informed Care Practice, and Emergency First Aid & CPR.
**Required Experience and Knowledge**
- Minimum of two years of experience working in a charitable organization, working in a front-line, client-first role.
We would prefer an individual who has experience in training adults/older adults.
- Minimum of two years of experience supervising others, with additional experience in project
management/development.
- Substantiated experience with designing and facilitating training and developing training tools.
- Works effectively in a wide range of settings with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Comfort in instructing others in digital literacy utilizing a variety of devices including tablets, e-readers, and laptops.
- Creates, leads and facilitates training, workshops and/or sessions involving clients and stakeholders.
- Accurately collects, manages and reports data to the direct supervisor for reporting purposes.

- Sensitivity to issues of immigration and knowledge of adjustment and transitional issues specific to newcomers;
patience, compassion and sensitivity.
- Works effectively in a wide range of settings with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
