Cultural Trauma Coordinator

**Position summary**
Under the direction of the Child and Family Services Manager (CFSM), the Cultural Trauma Program Coordinator will operate efficiently in accordance with the philosophies, policies, and objectives established by Seabird Island Band. The Cultural Trauma Therapist takes a lead role in delivering programming for trauma recovery using land-based methodology and First Nations culture, with an emphasis on cultural attachment, identity, and seasonally appropriate activities on the land. The Cultural Trauma Coordinator will work with individuals and groups during their short stay (six weeks) at the Trauma Centre to facilitate cultural awareness and attachment, using cultural attachment and identity as a means to heal trauma, approach addictions, family/parenting/marital concerns, stress management, aging, etc.
This position is for working out of our SI Trauma Treatment Centre.

**What you’ll do**
- Provide leadership in the development and implementation of programming for land-based and culturally focused healing
- Deliver land-based and culturally focused programming to individuals and groups attending the Trauma Centre.
- Provide an individualized approach to trauma and cultural awareness and attachment
- Create and seek out cultural events and occasions that are appropriate to clients and community
- Maintain appropriate documentation concerning assessment, client goals, actions, and outcomes
- Record keeping
- Conduct culturally appropriate and grounded workshops that connect people to their cultural self-expression
- Develop and deliver various information sessions and workshops based on the needs of the client base
- Maintain confidentiality of professionally acquired information
- Compile and submit monthly reports to the CFSM, containing both narrative and statistical information
- Participate in cultural and other community activities and functions as required by SIB and Chief and Council, including but not limited to Seabird Island Festival, and the Seabird Island Open House
- Act as an ambassador to other communities and the province at large, always representing the image of Seabird Island Band
- Assist with providing crisis support as needed and report immediately
- Ability to function independently within the framework of a team
- Must maintain professional conduct, boundaries, and ethical standards with a commitment to the principles and values of the First Nations Communities
- Empathetic, compassionate, and patient
- Regularly update client records in Mustimuhw database
- May be required to work evenings and weekends.
- Always demonstrate maturity and reliability
- Plan and participate with clients in social, recreational, and vocational activities.
- Purchase and maintain inventory of groceries and household supplies
- Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by your Supervisor, Manager, Director, or the ED
**What you bring**
**Education**
- Certificate or Diploma from a recognized Social Services Support Worker educational program, with special emphasis/experience in First Nations individuals, families, groups, communities and culture preferred
- Professionally grounded in First Nations spirituality, philosophies, ideology, knowledge and methodologies in approach to case management and social work is required
- Minimum 3 years’ related experience
- Food safe Level 1 is required
- Current First Aid min 8 hours and CPR level 2 wi
