Position: Children Ministry Director
Reports to: Pastor Mikel Laurie
Primary Purpose: To oversee and provide leadership for the Children's ministry at Highlands Baptist Church.
Remuneration: $400 per month
Hours: 4 hours per week
**Who Are We**: Highlands Baptist Church is a welcoming, community-focused church that loves Jesus and seeks to live out His teachings. We believe that everyone's individual gifts are vital as we join Christ in building his Kingdom.
**Denominational Affiliation**: Highlands Baptist Church is affiliated with the Canadian Baptist of Western Canada.
**Congregation Profile**: The church has 70 members, with an average weekly attendance of 50. The congregation primarily consists of seniors but is gradually becoming more ethnically diverse. There's a growing interest in building a children's ministry, with 5-7 primary/elementary kids currently attending.
**Sunday School**: The church values intergenerational connections between kids and adults, offering small Sunday School programs. The emphasis is on fostering a sense of community and lived faith.
**Responsibilities**:
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Engage and nurture children in a safe and welcoming environment.
- Plan and lead age-appropriate activities, lessons, and programs.
- Foster a sense of community and encourage spiritual growth.
- Collaborate with the Children's Ministry team to create memorable experiences.
**Areas of Responsibility**:
1. Teach Sunday School class: Lead and instruct Sunday School classes for children, creating a nurturing and educational environment.
2. Choose/develop a curriculum for the Sunday school: Select or create age-appropriate curricula that align with the church's values and beliefs.
3. Oversee Children's Ministry Budget: Manage the budget allocated for the Children's Ministry, ensuring responsible financial stewardship.
4. Coordinate Sunday School volunteers: Recruit, train, and manage volunteers to support the Sunday School program.
5. Train volunteers on ministry expectations: Provide guidance and training to volunteers, ensuring they understand the ministry's goals and standards.
6.Ensure that the Risk Management policy is being followed: Implement and oversee safety protocols and risk management procedures to ensure the well-being of children.
7. Provide ministry reports as needed: Prepare and present regular reports on the Children's Ministry's activities and progress to church leadership.
**Mentorship**:
1. Meet bi-weekly with Sarah Laurie (Provincially certified school teacher) for mentorship in Children's ministry.
2. Meet bi-weekly with Pastor Mikel Laurie for mentorship in church leadership.
**Qualifications**:
Our Children's Ministry is a vibrant and essential part of our church community, and we are looking for someone who is passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of young children. This role offers a wonderful opportunity to contribute to the spiritual growth and development of our youngest members.
Previous experience working with children required.
1. The sovereignty, love, and grace of God, the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit in creation, providence, revelation, redemption and final judgment.
2. The divine inspiration of Holy Scripture and its entire trustworthiness and supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.
4. The full deity and humanity of the Lord Jesus Christ, the incarnate Son of God, whose substitutionary sacrifice is the sole ground of redemption from the guilt, penalty and power of sin.
5. The justification of the sinner by the grace of God through faith alone in Christ crucified and risen from the dead.
6. The illuminating, regenerating, indwelling and sanctifying work of God, the Holy Spirit, in the believer.
7. The church as set forth in the New Testament and understood historically by the Baptist community.
8. The expectation of the personal, visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ, our participation in the resurrection, and the hope of eternal life.
