General Legal Counsel

**Position summary**

The General Counsel provides valuable strategic guidance and advice to the organization and is responsible for the legal affairs of the company. The General Counsel ensures the legal strategy is aligned and complies with regulatory compliance and corporate’s strategy.

**Responsibilities and duties**:

- Provide expert and strategic legal advice to management
- Identify proactive solutions that will eliminate or mitigate legal risks
- Offer counsel on legal issues related to franchising, leasing and M&A transactions along with other legal matters pertaining to all areas of focus and business.
- Responsible for ensuring legal compliance and limit risk exposure and facilitate business strategy development
- Ensure that the company is in compliance with all current business process laws
- Draft, review, negotiate and approve all legal documents
- Organize and expedite flow of work
- Route or answer correspondence
- Initiate follow-up as required
- Maintain a system for follow up on outstanding matters
- Other duties as assigned.

**Employment requirements**:

- LLB Degree/Licensed to practice law in any Canadian province
- Knowledge of franchising, leasing and M&A agreements
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner with clients, stakeholders and lawyers.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to manage concurrent responsibilities
- Detail-orientated individual with good proofreading skills
- Excellent multi-tasking skills
- Ability to work independently, follow instructions with mínimal supervision and take initiatives.
