Caretaker/cleaner

Luther College invites applicants for a part-time position in the role of Caretaker/Cleaner in the Maintenance Department. The hours of work will be Wednesday to Friday from 6:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. Reporting to the Manager of Physical Plant, the incumbent will be responsible for performing caretaking and cleaning duties, minor maintenance, and other miscellaneous duties in order to ensure that school buildings and facilities are maintained in a healthy, safe, and sanitary manner.

**Responsibilities**

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Clean classrooms, corridors, washrooms, staff rooms, and other school areas.
- Empty bins and dispose of waste appropriately.
- Clean internal windows, floors, and furniture.
- Replenish supplies such as soap, toilet paper, and hand towels.
- Follow cleaning schedules and health and safety guidelines.
- Unlock and lock the school premises at agreed times.
- Carry out minor maintenance and repairs (changing light bulbs, unblocking sinks).
- This is a physically demanding position. The incumbent spends their time standing, walking, lifting objects, operating cleaning equipment such as floor buffers, sweeping and mopping floors, and moving desks and furniture.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**
- High school diploma or equivalent is desirable.
- A demonstrated commitment to employee health and safety practices and procedures is required.
- Two or more years’ experience in the maintenance field, preferably in an educational or commercial building environment.
- Fireman’s Certificate would be considered an asset.
- A demonstrated commitment to employee health and safety practices and procedures is required. Knowledge of cleaning materials and chemicals used in the College and the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is essential. If not already in possession of this, a willingness to pursue this credential may be considered.
- A criminal record check will be required.

**Salary and Benefits**

The salary range for this position is $15.00 per hour. Effective October 1, 2025, the salary range will increase to $15.35 per hour. Luther College offers medical and dental benefits as well as an employee and family assistance plan through the Saskatchewan School Board Association agreement and is available after the completion of a three-month waiting period.
