**Job Description**:
***: Under the general supervision of the Operations & Maintenance Supervisor and the technical direction and guidance of the Lead Operator, operates maintenance and construction equipment within the classification. Performs the duties of a Skilled Sewer and Water Worker.
**MAJOR TASKS**:
- Operates maintenance and construction equipment within the classification.
- Operates other equipment within classification when required.
- Performs Skilled Sewer and Water Worker duties when the operation of equipment is not required.
- Checks and carries out minor servicing of equipment being operated.
- Reports equipment and material defects as required.
- Fills out time cards and Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection reports and forms. Marks in proper account distribution.
- Reports materials used to the stores as required.
- Performs stand-by duties as required.
- Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education/Experience**:
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of one (1) year practical experience operating Waste Water Collection System cleaning equipment and vacuum excavation equipment.
**Skills/Abilities**:
- Must have a sound working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of sanitary and storm sewer systems
- Must be proficient in the operation of the Department's high-pressure sewer flushing truck and related equipment
- Must be capable of reporting (written or verbal) on sewer and water systems conditions or problems
- Must be capable of issuing and accurately comprehending written/oral information and instructions
- Must be tactful and courteous with the public
- Must undergo proficiency testing relating to the operation of equipment
- Must be reliable and capable of performing routine work with a minimum of supervision
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class “D” Ontario Drivers Licence, or equivalent with a ‘Z’ endorsement
- Must meet the definition of a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
- Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
**CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**:
- Must be able to meet the response times for Standby as stipulated in the Environment Divisions Standard Operating Procedures
- Must remain a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
- May be required to provide a successful driver’s record (uncertified)
- Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
- Must work weekends and shifts as required
