JOB OVERVIEW
The Canmore Museum is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Programs & Events Assistant to support the delivery of engaging, community-focused programs and events throughout the summer season. This full-time, temporary role will work closely with museum staff and volunteers to help plan, prepare, and execute a variety of initiatives, including summer camps, outdoor movie nights, public workshops, field trips, and community outreach booths. The Programs and Events Assistant will also support volunteer coordination and ensure a welcoming, organized experience for all participants and visitors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with the planning, setup, delivery, and takedown of museum-led programs and events such as:
- Summer day camps
- Outdoor movie nights
- Family and adult workshops
- School and group field trips
- Guided tours
- Outreach activities at community events and festivals
- Prepare and maintain program materials and supplies, ensuring resources are organized and replenished as needed.
- Support the coordination and supervision of volunteers, including scheduling, orientation, and on-site support during events.
- Engage with the public during programs and events, providing friendly, knowledgeable, and inclusive interactions with participants of all ages.
- Ensure a safe and accessible environment, following museum protocols and best practices.
- Assist in collecting feedback and attendance data to support reporting and program evaluation.
- Contribute to promotional efforts through occasional assistance with social media content and community outreach.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the museum's mission and goals.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A post-secondary student or recent graduate in education, museum studies, history, tourism, recreation, or equivalent experience (preferred).
- Experience working with children, youth, or the public in a cultural, educational, or recreational setting is an asset.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a small team.
- Enthusiasm for local history, community engagement, and informal education.
- Ability to lift and carry event materials and work outdoors as needed.
- Availability to work weekends and evenings depending on program schedules.
- First Aid Certification and a Vulnerable Sector Check are required.
EMPLOYMENT DETAILS
**Position Type**: Full-Time, Temporary (July-August, with possible extension into September)
**Hours**: 37.5 hours per week; flexible schedule with some evening and weekend work required
**Wage**: $20.50 per hour
**Location**: Based at the Canmore Museum and NWMP Barracks, with off-site work at event and program locations across the Bow Valley
